Siddharthanagar ( Nepalese सिद्धार्थनगर ), formerly known as Bhairahava ( Nepalese भैरहवा ), is a city and municipality in the south of central Nepal , in the Rupandehi region of the Lumbini area of the Western region of the country.

It is located 5 km north of the border with India , 265 km west of Kathmandu and 22 km south of the city of Butwal , at an altitude of 87 m above sea level [1] . The city of Lumbini , known as one of the places claiming the right to be called the birthplace of Buddha Gautama , is located about 25 km west of Siddharthanagara.
The city’s economy is based on trade, which is favored by a favorable border position. There are small industrial enterprises that include several cement plants, a pulp and paper mill, and food processing enterprises. Gautama Buddha Airport is located 3 km from the city center; it takes regular flights from Kathmandu. Siddharthanagar does not have a railway connection, however, the Indian narrow gauge railway ends in the town of Nautanwa in the north of Uttar Pradesh , a few kilometers south of the border with Nepal. Siddhartha Highway connects the city with Pokhara ; in Butval, this highway intersects with a road that runs from west to east of Nepal. There is regular bus service to major cities of the country, as well as to Indian Delhi .
According to the 2011 census, the city population is 63,483, of which 31,673 are men and 31,810 are women [2] . The indigenous people speak mainly Avadhi and Bhojpuri . Nepali is widely spoken by people who come here from the mountains.
