Systematics

The family includes two plant species [3] [5] [6] :

  • Rogoz ( Typha ) (included in the monotypic tribe Typheae [7] )
  • Shed ( Sparganium ) (included in the monotypic tribe Sparganieae [8] )

Sometimes the Rogozov family is considered monotypic with the only genus Rogoz [9] [10] , and the genus Echinacea is separated into a separate family Echinaceae ( Sparganiaceae ) [8] [11] . To date, Sparganiaceae is usually considered synonymous with Typhaceae [12] .

Distribution, general description

Representatives are distributed from temperate to tropical latitudes [10] .

The separation of both genera occurred 89 million years ago. Monoecious plants growing in an aquatic environment. The flowers are very small, collected in dense inflorescences. Fruits are not expanding, seeds are dusty [13] .
