The total length varies from 6 to 10.5 cm. The trunk is shortened. The eardrum is poorly visible. The skin is smooth, two folds are formed on the sides of the back. The swimming membrane on the paws is poorly developed. The color of the back ranges from bright red to red-orange, the belly is snowy white or yellowish, sometimes with a dark spot on the throat.
He loves lowlands in tropical and subtropical rainforests, various swamps. It occurs at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level. Active at night. It feeds on insects and arthropods. To defend against enemies, it can swell greatly.
Oviparous amphibian. Mating begins after the rainy season.
The species is common on the northeast coast of Madagascar.
