May 15, 1994, Ternopol , Ternopol Region , Ukraine ) - Colonel of the RF Armed Forces , participant of the Great Patriotic War , Hero of Russia Federation ( 1995 , posthumously). Biography
Born May 18, 1923 in the village of Kozino, now Sergiev Posad district of the Moscow region. Russian. Subsequently, the family moved to the city of Krasnozavodsk, Moscow Region. He graduated from high school there, worked at the Krasnozavodsky chemical plant. Since 1940, he simultaneously studied at the Moscow flying club.
In April 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army and sent to study at the Chernigov Aviation School of military pilots , which he graduated in May 1942, and was promoted to sergeant in the 166th Fighter Aviation Regiment.
As part of the 166th regiment took part in:
- defense (and after - liberation) of the North Caucasus;
- Battle of the Kursk;
- the liberation of Ukraine, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Germany.
In May 1943, the regiment was transformed into the 88th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment . Since the summer of 1943, he commanded the link [1] . He fought on the LaGG-3, La-5 and La-7 fighters. He graduated from the war as deputy commander of the 190th fighter aviation regiment in the 66th fighter air division on the 1st Ukrainian Front. By May 9, 1945, it made 307 sorties, conducted 69 air battles, shot down 15 enemy aircraft personally and 10 in the group (according to researcher M. Yu. Bykov, he won 13 personal and 5 group victories [2] ).
The regiment commander introduced himself to the rank of Hero of the Soviet Union in June 1945, but was not awarded.
After the war, he continued to serve in the army until 1959, when he was transferred to the reserve with the rank of colonel. He lived in the city of Ternopol, Ukrainian SSR. He worked at Aeroflot, then at the production association Ternopil Combine Plant. Actively engaged in educational and patriotic work. He died on May 15, 1994. He was buried in Ternopol.
By decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1036 dated October 11, 1995 for courage and heroism shown in the fight against Nazi invaders in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, retired colonel Nikolai Monetov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the Golden Star medal ”(Medal No. 229).
He was awarded five orders of the Red Banner, orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Red Star, medals [3] (according to some reports, only 28 awards [4] ). Honorary Citizen of Ternopil (1983).
