Biography

Johann Heinrich Busse, known in Russia as Ivan Fomich, was born in 1763 in the German province of Brandenburg in the city of Gardelegen . After graduating from the University of Gallic in August 1785, he was invited to Petersburg as an assistant director (director) of an academic gymnasium, and in 1788 he was appointed non-commissioned librarian at the Academy of Sciences. Since 1795, Ivan Fomich worked as an adjunct of the Academy [2] , and on March 19, 1800 he was elected an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy . [3]

Upon his retirement in 1801, he occupied the post of pastor in the church of St. Catherine on Vasilyevsky Island . In 1819, after leaving Russia, he settled in Galle, then in Grabov [2] .

From 1794 to 1796, Busse published the Journal von Russland , which was entirely devoted to Russian research and also translated from Russian, in particular, he wrote the German translation of G. A. Sarychev 's Journey to North-Eastern Siberia. ( Ger . “Gawrilla Sarytschew's achtjahrige Reise im nordostlichen Sibirien, auf dem Eismeere und dem nordlichen Ocean” ) [2] .

Family

In Russia, the descendants of Busse are known: the sons of Franz Ivanovich [4] and Fedor Ivanovich (1794-1859) are teachers of mathematics and grandson Fedor Fedorovich (Theodor Fridrikhovich; 1838-1896) is a geographer, a researcher of the Far East. Another grandson, Nikolai Vasilyevich (1828–1866), was a military and statesman, major general.
