Biography
David-Augustine de Bruyes was born in 1640 in the city of Aix-en-Provence in the French department of Bouches-du-Rhone .
Bossuet converted to Catholicism , became a spiritual person and wrote polemical works of theological content [3] .
However, de Bruyès could not resist the attraction to the theater and, in collaboration with Jean Palaprat ( fr. Jean de Palaprat ; 1650-1721), wrote many plays that were very successful [4] . The comedy is considered their best play: “ Le Grondeur ” written in 1691, which Voltaire placed above all Moliere's farces; at Avocat Patelin they presented a successful remake of this famous medieval farce. In addition, their following joint works were famous: “ Le Muet ”, “ Le sot toujours sot ”, “ Les Quiproquo ”, “ L'important ” [3] .
De Brues wrote some plays on his own, without the participation of Palapra. The works of de Bruyes and Palapra were published together, after the death of both authors, in a three-volume edition in 1755 (a three-volume two-volume edition was published in 1812) [3] .
David-Augustine de Brues died on November 27, 1723 in the city of Montpellier .
