Mikhail Nikolaevich Livanov (October 7 (20), 1907, Kazan - May 25, 1986, Moscow) - Soviet physiologist , one of the founders of Soviet electroencephalography. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1970).

Biography

He graduated from Kazan University (1931).

Since 1933 he worked as the head of the laboratory:

  • 1933-1947 at the Moscow Institute of the Brain ,
  • 1947-1949 at the Institute of Pathology and Therapy of Intoxication of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences,
  • 1949-1961 at the Institute of Biophysics of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR
  • since 1961 - at the Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

Editor-in-chief of the Uspekhi Fiziologicheskikh Nauk journal (since 1975).

On June 29, 1962, he was a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the Department of Biological Sciences (animal and human physiology).

On November 24, 1970 - academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the department of physiology.

He studied bioelectric phenomena in the cerebral cortex in normal and pathological conditions. One of the founders of electroencephalography in the USSR. First applied mathematical analysis methods to bioelectric vibrations of the cerebral cortex. His theoretical studies and methodological techniques are used to diagnose diseases in a neuropsychiatric clinic, in space medicine.

He was buried at Kuntsevsky cemetery [1] .

Rewards

USSR State Prize (1987, posthumous).

Gold medal named after I.P. Pavlov (1976) - for a series of fundamental works on the electrophysiology of higher nervous activity (research in the field of memory problems).

He was awarded the orders of the October Revolution, the Red Banner of Labor (twice), "Badge of Honor".
