Gregory was born in the region of Bithynia . The worldly name of Gregory is unknown. His parents were Orthodox Christians, famous and noble in origin. Gregory, according to life, received a good secular education. Then he entered one of the best monasteries, in which he received tonsure and learned church singing, and after that he was ordained a deacon and then a priest. Pursued by envy emanating from people, Gregory leaves for another monastery located in the vicinity of one of the villages. In this monastery lived the brother of Gregory. Here he worked with his brother. After living in the monastery for three years, Gregory asked permission from the abbot to let him go to a more secluded place, Gregory decided to spend his life in silence and climbed a nearby mountain, located in the bay near Nicomedia , where he decided to stay forever. He built a kaliva (small hut). Gregory died at the age of 50. Gregory did not leave any written works. The memory of Gregory is not noted in the ancient sinaxars of the Greek Church. The life of the saint was written in the middle of the fourteenth century by Joseph Kalofet , who died in 1355. In 1803, Nicodemus Svyatorets included the life of Gregory in his book Νέον Εκλόγιον (The New Eclogion) under April 2.
