History
In 2008 , Nikolai Khondzinsky, a student at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. Tchaikovsky , a London-based company Toccata Classics [1] proposed to record all choral works by V. Ya. Shebalin . The first work was praised by critics [2] . In 2009 , a composition of first-class instrumentalists was formed around the choir, which included musicians from Russia and other countries (accompanist and soloist Ayako Tanabe from Japan). Domestic and western, ancient and modern music, the cultural heritage of Christian Europe are the basis of the repertoire of the group, which over the years of active work has gained a reputation as a pioneer of undeservedly forgotten masterpieces of Russian music of the XX century and unknown monuments of European musical baroque in Russia.
Among the world and Russian premieres held by the chapel under the leadership of Khondzinsky:
- Ya. D. Zelenka - the first performance of Gloria, for soloists of the choir and orchestra (Theater Hall of MMDM , 2010 );
- first performance in Russia of Miserere ZWV 57 for soloists of the choir and orchestra ( Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral of Peter and Paul, 2009 );
- first performance in Russia of Miserere ZWV 56 for soloists of the choir and orchestra ( Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin , 2011 );
- first performance by Kyrie, Sanctus, Agnus Dei, for choir and orchestra ( Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin , 2012 );
- the first performance in Russia of almost all orchestral compositions by I.S.Bach - the first performance in Russia of a number of spiritual cantatas, instrumental works ( 2009 - 2014 );
- G. V. Sviridov - the first performance of choirs from the cycle “Songs of Timelessness” ( Svetlanov Hall of MMMD , 2012 );
- Yu. B. Abdokov - the first performance of the music of the ballet “Autumn Prayers” ( Theater Hall of the MMMD , 2010 );
- the first performance of the poem for the orchestra “On the Edge of Melting and Ice” ( Rachmaninov Hall of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Theater , 2013 );
- the first performance of the elegiac poem for solo violin and string orchestra ( Small Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Theater , 2013 );
- first performance of the Poem for the orchestra "Birds in the Rain" ( Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin , 2014 );
- a number of works by G.F. Handel , G.F. Telemann , A. Vivaldi and others.
According to the English reviewer Mark Roberts (W. Mark Roberts, DSCH Journal), the recordings made by the Russian Conservatory under the direction of Nikolai Khondzinsky “are unlikely to be superior in quality in the foreseeable future” [3] . People’s Artist of Russia Karen Khachaturian gave no less appreciation to the skill of Nikolai Khondzinsky, calling his conducting work “brilliant”, and the maestro himself “one of the brightest and most talented musicians of the new generation”.
Many times [4] [5] [6] [7] [2] [3] [8] [9] critics noted mastery, creative passion, stylistic accuracy, and the richness of the collective's timbre palette.
