Nikolai Evseevich Savchenko ( 1922 - 2001 ) - Soviet Belarusian scientist in the field of surgery, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Biography
Nikolay Savchenko was born on November 7, 1922 in the village of Red Palace (now the Chechersky district of the Gomel region of Belarus ). Participated in the battles of World War II , after its end was demobilized. In 1948, Savchenko graduated from the Minsk State Medical Institute. Since 1951 he taught at the Military Medical Academy in Leningrad , and since 1958 - at the Department of Urology at the Belarusian State Institute of Advanced Medical Studies. Since 1960, he headed this institute. In 1965 he defended his doctoral dissertation [1] .
In 1966, Savchenko was appointed Minister of Health of the Byelorussian SSR, and held this position for twenty years. In parallel with state activities, he was actively engaged in scientific, teaching and social activities. He was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Belarusian SSR, headed the Department of Urology of the Minsk State Medical Institute, then the Belarusian Republican Center for Kidney Transplantation [1] .
He is the author of more than 300 scientific papers, 9 inventions and 11 monographs in the field of diseases of the genitourinary system, organ and tissue transplantation, and automated healthcare management systems. In 1969, Savchenko was elected a corresponding member, and in 1972 - an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. In 1982, he was awarded the USSR State Prize , and in 1988 - the State Prize of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
He died on June 12, 2001 [1] , was buried in the Eastern cemetery of Minsk .
He was also awarded three orders of the Red Banner of Labor , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, two orders of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Savchenko, the Minsk City Clinical Hospital No. 4 was named [1] .
