Initially, the team from Voskresensk, who became the Premier League winner in the 2007/2008 season, was considered as the main candidate for the place of Minsk Dynamo and his rival in the Premier League final of the previous season of Yekaterinburg Avtomobilist , who at that time were not ready to play in the newly formed Continental Hockey League [1] [2] [3] . As a result, on July 14, at a meeting with the governor of the Moscow region, which was attended by the president of Chemist Yuri Sleptsov, it was announced that Chemist took the place of Avtomobilist in the KHL and became a full member of the League, despite the fact that the Yekaterinburg club I was able to find money to play in the new tournament [4] [5] [6] [7] . On July 22, the club passed the inspection of the KHL commission [8] .

Before the start of the Chemist season, in view of the late inclusion of the team in the KHL, when most of the available players had already found new clubs, poor financing (the latest budget of the League [9] ) and inferior fees, it was the weakest team in all positions. The only plus for the Sunday team was that it was not created from scratch, but had the backbone played in the previous season's victory in the Premier League [10] [11] [12] ..

Offseason

The team’s transfer policy and pre-season training schedule were determined even before Khimik officially took the place of Avtomobilist in the KHL, and therefore she needed an obvious reinforcement in the form of experienced hockey players capable of solving problems at a high level [13] .

On July 14, the club began preseason training. The team held an organizational meeting and the first training [14] . On July 17, the Chemist matches calendar for the upcoming season became known [15] .

The club held its first control match on July 26 in Podolsk against another club from the Moscow region Chekhov 's Vityaz , in which he lost 1-4. The only goal in the Sunday team in the second period from the transfer of Maxim Korobov was scored by Dmitry Korotkov [16] [17] [18] . After the match, the Chemistry coach Yuri Novikov said that the main goal of the team in the upcoming season is to adapt to the new league and raise the level of club infrastructure [19] .

On August 1, in a match against the Captain’s Stepan’s “Chemist” won his first victory in the offseason with a score of 6: 2. Mikhail Panshin , Aleksey Kolkunov , Andrei Galushkin , Denis Koroteev , Aleksey Smirnov and Andrei Strakhov [20] [21] scored goals in the Sunday team. In the third test match in Mytishchi against the local “ Atlanta ” on August 3, Sunday lost 2–3, scoring both goals in the third period. In the “Chemist” rookie Bobrov Alexander Romanovsky distinguished themselves. In the series of post-match free throws prescribed by the rules of the match, which could no longer affect the final result, Khimik turned out to be stronger [22] [23] . Despite the friendly nature of the meeting, the “yellow-blue” derby gathered 1,500 people in the stands, which indicates that hockey is one of the favorite sports in the Moscow region. The head coach of the Sunday team, Yuri Novikov, noted goalkeeper Andrei Vasiliev [24] .

On August 8, Voskresdenky again took the Captain of Stupina on their field, however, this time they lost with a score of 2: 4 in regular time and 1: 2 in a series of shootouts, which was also provided for in the regulations [25] . On the same day, the former defender of the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo ” Alexander Zavyalov left the club’s location [26] . On August 9, the yellow-blue backup team played with the Russian team, made up of players born in 1991, and lost with a score of 4: 6. The second period was decisive, in which the “collections” scored two goals more [27] . On August 11, “Chemist” with a score of 3: 2 prevailed over “Vityaz”. Victor Gordiuk , Alexey Kolkunov and Alexander Blokhin were noted as abandoned washers [28] . On August 13, the club was defeated in the match against Moscow Spartak 0-1, but took revenge in the exhibition shootout. The Moscow Region team replaced Avtomobilist in the pre-season preparation schedule for Red-White. The match began with a moment of silence in memory of people who died during the events in South Ossetia. According to Yuri Novikov, “the result of the meeting is encouraging and inspiring confidence” [29] [30] . On August 15 and 16, Chemist held two matches against Yaroslavl Lokomotiv , in which they lost twice with a score of 1: 3 and 1: 8, respectively. In Sunday, Dmitry Korotkov and Alexander Kozhevnikov [31] [32] distinguished themselves in two matches.

On August 19, “Chemist” joined the forward of “Atlanta” Alexander Blokhin , not useful to the club from Mytishchi [33] [34] . On the same day, in a friendly match against the newcomer of the Premier League of Podolsk “ Lynx ”, the Resurrection won a minimal victory with a score of 3: 2 [35] . On August 22 and 23, Khimik held two matches against Torpedo in Nizhny Novgorod, which ended in a 3-0 victory for the guests and a 3-3 draw, respectively. In the second match, after the end of regular time, an exhibition series of shootouts was held, in which the guests were stronger [36] [37] . August 26 in Ryazan “Chemist” held the final match in preparation for the season. The victory with a score of 3: 2 was brought by accurate throws by Denis Kartsev, Alexei Petrov and Andrey Galushkin [38] . In total, as part of the pre-season preparation, Khimik held 12 matches in which it won 5 victories, suffered 6 defeats, and another match ended in a draw (according to the rules of the meeting, overtime and, if necessary, a series of post-match free throws were not required )

On August 27, the final composition of the team for the season [39] [40] became known. The team’s bid list included 25 players, 14 of whom defended the colors of Khimik last season in the Premier League [41] . 10 players left the team: defenders Anton Poleshchuk , Halim Nigmatullin and Nikolai Lukyanchikov , who went to Omsk Avangard [42] , Ariadu-Akpars and Neftekhimik , respectively, and forwards Stanislav Timakov (Avtomobilist), Alexey Vasiliev ( Metallurg Novokuznetsk ), Alexander Chistyakov , Mikhail Davletov (both Captain Stupino), Evgeny Petukhov , Vladimir Stulov (both Ryazan HC) and Evgeny Pasternatsky ( Wings of the Soviets-VILS ) and replenished 13: goalkeeper Alex Egorov (Vityaz), defenders Pavel Voroshnin (Atlant of Mytishchi), Alexey Petrov ( Neftekhimik ), Nikolai Tsulygin (Torpedo), Victor Uchevatov (Reading Royal, ECHL ) and Alexander Gromov ( Titan Klin) and forwards Sergey Korolev , Denis Kartsev (both Torpedo), Andrey Korobov (Spartak), Alexander Blokhin (Atlant Mytishchi), Andrey Galushkin (Neftekhimik), Dmitry Korotkov (Vityaz Chekhov) and Alexander Kozhevnikov (Titan Klin), and defender Yevgeny Pupkov (Avtomobilist ) and striker Mikhail Panshin ( Hammer-Prikamye ) are declared for the farm club [43] [44] . The player’s career was completed by Andrei Potaychuk [45] [46] .

On August 28, after the friendly match of the Khimik backup team and the Ryazan hockey club, a meeting of fans with the coaching staff and leading players of the team took place [47] . On September 1, in the press center of the ice palace “ Moscow Region ”, a meeting of fans of the “Chemist” with the head coach of the team Yuri Novikov took place [48] .

Regular Season

September

The 2008/2009 season began for Chemist on September 3 with a guest match against the Togliatti Lada , which was coached by the current yellow-blue coach Yuri Novikov at the beginning of last season. The first period was left to the owners - the “car makers” scored two goals quite quickly, but before leaving for the break Petrov was still able to print Podomatsky’s goal and score his team’s first goal of the season. In the second period, the teams exchanged goals - Korolev responded to the hosts' goal, taking advantage of the relaxedness that widened the gap in the opponent’s score. The final twenty minutes turned out to be the most intense - the guests answered with an abandoned puck for each of the two goals of Togliatti, in addition, a few seconds before the end the players of Khimik could not get into the empty net. The result of the meeting is 5: 4 in favor of Lada. The best of the Sunday was the three strikers Galushkin-Kolkunov-Luchinkin [49] . According to the head coach of the “yellow-blue” Yuri Novikov, the result was influenced by the starting excitement and a large number of deletions, which took a lot of energy from the players [50] . In the next match in Kazan against the much more formidable Ak Bars , the Chemist lost 0-4 dry. In this meeting, the head coach of the guests gave a chance to prove themselves and gain experience for young players [51] . On September 7, in the final match of the starting exit in Nizhnekamsk against the local Neftekhimik , the Moscow Region club scored the first three points of the season, winning with a score of 2: 1. The second and third periods turned out to be decisive, in which the guests scored one unanswered goal through the efforts of Romanovsky and Romanov [52] .

The first home series began for Chemist on September 13 with a match against Chelyabinsk Tractor . The debut in front of the home audience turned out to be discouraging for the Moscow Region club - the guests scored five unanswered goals. After the match, Yuri Novikov stated that the attackers were to blame for the defeat [53] . The next day, another club from the Chelyabinsk region , Magnitogorsk Metallurg , came to visit the Sundays. In the first period, the hosts scored an unanswered goal with the efforts of Koroteev, but nevertheless lost, conceiving a goal in the remaining two periods - 1: 2 [54] . The game against the Ufa “ Salavat Yulaev ” ended with the same score in favor of the guests. The team’s debutant Andrei Strakhov was noted as an abandoned puck in the Chemist team [55] .

The second yellow-blue series began on September 21 with a match in Novokuznetsk against the local Metallurg . After a goalless first period in the second twenty minute, Khimik scored two goals with the efforts of Gorelov and Galkin, to which the hosts answered with two goals in the third period. The match went into overtime, in which none of the teams failed to make a decisive throw. The first shootout of the season for Chemist turned out to be unsuccessful - Victor Gordiyuk and Sergey Luchinkin could not beat the Forge goalkeeper Maxim Sokolov, while the Novokuznetsk residents were accurate twice [56] . Despite the failure, Yuri Novikov was pleased with his players [57] . In the next match in Khabarovsk against the local Amur , the Sunday did not manage to score points - goals of Kozhevnikov and Gordiyuk in the first and third periods, respectively, did not help Chemist avoid the defeat with a score of 2: 4. The third period was decisive, in which the guests missed three unanswered goals [58] . The last rival of Khimik on departure was Novosibirsk Siberia . Throughout the meeting, the hosts were in the lead, but the guests efforts of Bobrov were able to translate the game into overtime, which, however, did not bring any advantage to any of the teams. The second shootout series in three matches was again unsuccessful for the Sunday, and the team takes away only one point from Novosibirsk [59] . Three days later, in the match against Nizhny Novgorod “ Torpedo ” “Chemist” pleased his fans with their first home victory 3–2. Decisive was the puck of Alexander Kozhevnikov, abandoned at the end of the second period [60] . After the match, Yuri Novikov singled out goalkeeper Andrei Vasiliev [61] . Thus, the team finished September in last place in the Tarasov division with 8 points in the asset [62] .

October

Like the previous month, October began for Sunday with two defeats and a victory. The home series, which began the match with Torpedo, continued on October 1. In a derby near Moscow with the tournament leader Mytishchi Atlant , the Chemist lost 1-4. The only goal in the home team in the second period scored Smirnov [63] .

9 losses in 11 matches and 2nd place from the end in the league led to the fact that on October 2, Yuri Nikitin, by mutual agreement with the leadership of the team, was dismissed from his post as head coach. Gennady Koroteev Gennady Koroteyev [64] [65] was appointed the temporary acting head coach as a double mentor and director of the Sunday School's youth school. Nikitin himself commented on the decision of the club management:

That is my fate. I begin to create good teams, and then they remove me from the team. But I'm not used to complaining. I know my work, and I know how to work. I don’t want to relax and am ready to consider offers from any clubs ” [66] .

At the same time, he noted the progress of the defenders who have problems in hockey education, and the game of goalkeepers Vasilyev, Egorov and Gerasimov. He also lamented the weak game in attack [67] . According to Sports.ru correspondent Alexander Lyutikov, this decision was hasty, given the result that the Moscow Region team could achieve with problems caused by the late inclusion of the club in the KHL - funding for the Higher League and inferior pre-season training, the schedule of which had to be built literally anew [ 68] .

On October 3, “Khimik” took on its site the Balashikha KhK MVD and lost with a score of 1: 3. As in the previous match with Atlant, Smirnov distinguished himself in the hosts [69] . Two days later, in the final match of the home series, the “yellow-blue” presented one of the biggest sensations in the start of the championship - “Magnitogorsk” was defeated 4-0. Strakhov and Kartsev scored a goal in the first two periods, and Galushkin and Bobrov scored in the final twenty-minute period [70] . Acting head coach Gennady Koroteev praised goalkeeper Alexei Egorov, and also noted that the players acted without serious errors [71] .

On October 8, Khimik went to Chekhov for a match against Vityaz. The first period was left to the guests - the only goal from Romanov’s pass was scored by Gorelov. The hosts were able to recoup only in the third period and transfer the match to overtime, where already at the 6th second they scored the winning puck [72] . Two days later, Sunday 3–5 lost to Spartak Moscow . As part of the "yellow-blue" distinguished Romanov, Strakhov and Pupkov [73] .

The third home season of the season began for Khimik on October 15 with a match against St. Petersburg SKA . The effective actions of Kartsev, who scored two goals, and gave him in both cases Assists Luchinkin put the hosts ahead with a score of 2: 0. In the third period, the St. Petersburg “army team” managed to equalize and transfer the game to overtime, in which none of the teams could distinguish themselves. Guests in the shootout were more successful [74] . Guest coach Barry Smith was a member of Chemist Alexei Egorov, who, according to him, acted “beyond praise” [75] . On October 17, the first replenishment took place as part of the Sunday team during the season - the forward of Kryliy Sovetov Mikhail Milekhin moved to Khimik, who managed to score 14 (6 + 8) points in the Premier League [76] . It also became known that the club will sign two more players: Kazakhstan goalkeeper Sergei Ogureshnikov ( Kazakhmys ) and defender Anton Poleshchuk, who has the status of an unlimited free agent [77] . Next, “Chemist” was to meet for the first time this season with three Dynamo in a row - Riga, Moscow and Minsk. On October 18, residents of Riga came to Voskresensk and won with a score of 2: 1 [78] . According to the acting Koroteev’s head coach, the outcome of the match was decided by two deletions as part of the Moscow Region team [79] . In the next match on October 20 against the Dynamo Moscow “Chemist”, through the efforts of Zimin and Shamolin, who scored a goal in the third period, he was able to recoup and transfer the game to overtime, where the puck was not abandoned. In the shoot-out series, which stretched over 12 shots, the decisive was the miss of the Sunday striker Sergei Luchinkin [80] . In the final match of the home series on October 22 against the Minsk Dynamo, the “yellow-blue” lost in regular time with a score of 1: 3. As part of the hosts in the second period, Shamolin distinguished himself [81] . On October 28, the club signed a contract with former Florida Panthers player and Russian team Ivan Novoseltsev , as did Milekhin, who began the season in the Premier League as part of Wings of the Soviets [82] . On the same day, “Chemist” presented the second sensation of the season, beating SKA away 5–3. Doubles in the composition of the guests were noted by Luchinkin and Kartsev [83] . On October 29, in connection with the termination of the cooperation agreement with HC Ryazan , attackers Roman Savichev and Vladimir Stulov and defender Andrei Sharkov returned to the Moscow Region team [84] . In the next guest match against Cherepovets Severstal , Khimik lost in the shootings. The yellow-blue team responded to the hosts' goal in the first period with an abandoned goal by Romanov in the second twenty minute. The match went into overtime, in which the puck was not abandoned. In a series of shootouts, the hosts turned out to be more accurate [85] . October 31 Koroteev got rid of the prefix "acting" and was appointed head coach of the team near Moscow [86] . October “Chemist” finished in last place in the Tarasov division with 18 points [87] .

November

November, “Chemist” began with a guest match with the Yaroslavl “ Locomotive ”. Most of the match on the scoreboard burned “zeros”, and only in the third period the hosts managed to open an account. It seemed that the finalist of the last year’s championship of Russia could easily get the victory, but Khimik once again showed character, and Gordiyuk’s efforts evened the score, and already in overtime the hero of the match with SKA Sergey Luchinkin scored the winning goal. This match also became the debut for Sergey Ogureshnikov [88] . After the match, Yaroslavl coach Kari Heikkila noted the Sunday game, calling the Khimik defense the best among the teams with which Loko had their last four home games [89] . On November 8, during a break in the regular season, Chemist held a friendly match in Chekhov with Vityaz. The meeting ended with the victory of the guests with a score of 3: 2. The goals of the Sunday people are on the account of Ivan Novoseltsev, Sergey Sentyurin and Viktor Bobrov [90] . On November 11, Sunday was defeated in a away match with Magnitogorsk 2-3. In the composition of the guests, Smirnov and Gordiyuk distinguished themselves once in the second and third periods [91] . The last match of the “South Ural tour” against “Tractor” also ended in failure - this time the “yellow-blue”, which included Galushkin with an abandoned puck, lost 1–3 [92] .

After a long trip, in which “Chemist” scored 5 points out of 15 possible, on November 16, the Sunday club returned to their native arena, where they hosted CSKA Moscow . The Moscow Region club managed to impose the fight on “CSKA” and twice during the meeting compared the score - first, in the second period, efforts of Novoseltsev and Galushkin recouped from 0: 2, and then in the third period, Novoseltsev scored twice, making the score 3: 3, and transferred the meeting to overtime. In the extra time, the teams failed to throw the pucks, and in the shootout, the “yellow-blue” lost for the sixth time this season [93] . On November 17, Omsk Avangard came to Voskresensk, having at that time five defeats in the last six matches. A series of setbacks continued on this day. The hosts confidently won the first period - Shamolin and Gordyuk scored, and at the beginning of the second period brought the score to the crushing Luchinkin. Guests were able to play only one puck. The result of the meeting is 3: 1 in favor of Chemist [94] . In the next home match against Astana “ Barys ” the “yellow-blue” three goals was not enough even to catch at least one point - the guests confidently won 6: 3 [95] .

On November 23 and 25, “Khimik” played away with the same rivals in the last two matches - “Vanguard” and “Barys”, respectively. In the match with Omsk, the Sunday did not manage to repeat their home success - the hosts won the series of shootouts, interrupting their losing streak [96] . The match with the Kazakhstan club repeated the outcome of the meeting between the two clubs in Voskresensk. Like a week earlier, Barys took over, this time with a score of 4: 2 [97] . The last match in November, “Chemist” held in St. Petersburg against SKA. St. Petersburg “CSKA” took revenge for the defeat a month ago, winning with a score of 2: 1. The only goal was scored by Gordyuk. Having scored 7 points in 9 games, Chemist remained in 23rd place in the League and 6th in Tarasov’s division [98] .
