Description
Small reddish-brown ants about 5 mm long with long prickles of metathorax. It differs from the closely related species Myrmica pachei and Myrmica villosa in coarser transverse furrowiness in the upper part of the propodeum and mesonotum and reticular dorsum pronotum. Suboval head (rounded back). Scape of the antenna of the workers smoothly bent at the base (without a tooth or blade on the bend); petiole with no apparent stalk in front. Abutments with 7 prongs. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and the postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, the pupae are bare (without cocoon ). The belly is smooth and shiny. Sexual individuals (females and males) and biology have not been investigated [1] [2] .
Systematics
Close to species from the Myrmica pachei -group group. The edges of the head covered with numerous distant hairs are similar to such species as Myrmica pleiorhytida , Myrmica multiplex , Myrmica yunnanensis and Myrmica heterorhytida . The species was first described in 2008 by the entomologists A. G. Radchenko ( Ukraine ) and S. Zhu (S. Zhou, China ). The name of the species M. weii is given in honor of the Chinese entomologist Professor K. Wei (Prof. Cong Wei ; The Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University , Yangling , China ), who found a typical taxon series [1] [3] .
