Janakpur ( Nepali. जनकपुर अञ्चल ) is a zone (administrative unit) in the east of central Nepal . It is part of the Central region of the country. The administrative center is the city of Janakpur .

The population according to the 2011 census is 2 837 481 people; according to the 2001 census, it numbered 2,557,004 people [1] .
Geography
The area of the zone is 9669 km². It borders with the Narayani zone (in the southwest), Bagmati zone (in the northwest), the Sagarmatha zone (in the east), as well as the Tibet Autonomous Region of the PRC (in the north) and the Indian state of Bihar (in the south).
