Biography

Lebedev Nikolai Konstantinovich was born on September 25, 1846 in Simbirsk in the family of a gymnasium teacher Konstantin Nikiforovich Lebedev. He studied at the Saratov gymnasium. Then he entered St. Petersburg University , where he graduated with a Ph.D. in physics and mathematics.

His father placed lyric poems in the Zavolzhsky Ant in the 1930s .

Lebedev dreamed of a scientific career and published several articles in the journals “Knowledge” and “Literate”. But because of his love of literature, he took up literary activity.

Lebedev Nikolay Konstantinovich died on March 30, 1888 .

Literary activity

During his student years and several years after graduation, Lebedev gave lessons in many merchant houses, got acquainted with the life of merchants and wrote the novels “The Aristocracy of Gostiny Dvor” [1] and “Caliph for an hour” [2] . The novel “The Aristocracy of Gostiny Dvor” aroused great interest among readers of that time, largely due to the fact that portraits of many prominent St. Petersburg merchants were recognized among its characters. However, in this work one can feel the real literary talent of its author.

Two years later, Lebedev wrote a new novel, "Sodom" [3] . This work attracted the attention of Dostoevsky , who wished to get acquainted with its author.

Then Lebedev released the novels “The Queen of Baroque” [4] , “Sandrilion” [5] , the collection of short stories “About children not for children” [6] , novels and short stories :

  • "Serge"
  • “In the flowers” [7]
  • "Masquerade Ball"
  • “Cheap bread” [8]
  • "Monichka" [9] and others.

He especially succeeded in children’s and bizarre female types: Sandrillona, ​​the heroine of the Monichki, and others.

Lebedev also wrote The Paradox [10] .

Lebedev's works were published in Niva , Novi, Sever and other magazines.

In 1885 - 1888, he led in the "St. Petersburg Vedomosti" department of feuille-journalistic content called "Conversation".
