Biography
In 1945, Monroe was enrolled in the Royal Navy of New Zealand and enrolled in the cadets of the in Dartmouth , temporarily located in . After returning to New Zealand, Ian entered the service of the research ship " " and before transferring to the Hydrographic Branch, participated in the Korean War on the frigate " " [1] . In 1948, Monroe received the rank of junior lieutenant [2] , in 1950 - lieutenant [3] , in 1958 - [4] , and at the end of 1966 - commander [5] . From September 1965 to December 1969, he commanded "HMAS Lachlan" [6] , and over the next seven years was a hydrograph [7] . Resigned in October 1977 [1] .
In 1977, Monroe an officer in the Order of the British Empire [8]
Ian Monroe passed away on October 27, 2014 after a long illness in Auckland . He left his wife Erika, with whom he lived 58 years, as well as five children and five grandchildren [9] .
