Biography
Nikolai Nesterovich was born on July 25, 1903 in the village of Yentsi (now the Kormyansky District of the Gomel Region of Belarus ). In 1931 he graduated from the Belarusian Forestry Institute, after which he remained to work in it, was in it the head of the teaching and experimental forestry, then an assistant. Since 1937, Nesterovich worked in the Central Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
In 1941 he joined the army, participated in the battles of the Great Patriotic War . After its termination was demobilized. [2]
From 1946, Nesterovich worked as head of the department and deputy director for scientific work at the director of the Institute of Biology of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR. In 1955 he defended his doctoral dissertation, in 1956 he was approved as a professor and elected academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Belorussian SSR, becoming academic secretary of the Academy of Biological Sciences and at the same time head of the department of the Institute of Experimental Botany. Since 1969, Nesterovich served as vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR, since 1973 - scientific consultant, since 1975 - head of the department of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
He was the author of more than 200 scientific papers in the field of forest and green building, studying the growth and development of woody plants, conducted unique research on the seeds and fruits of a number of woody plants. In 1967, Nesterovich was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the Byelorussian SSR, and in 1976 he was awarded the State Prize of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
He died on December 27, 1984 [1] , was buried in the Eastern Cemetery of Minsk .
He was also awarded two Orders of Lenin , Orders of the October Revolution , the Red Banner of Labor , World War I, 1st and 2nd degrees, the Red Star , the Badge of Honor and a number of medals [1] .
