Biography
He graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Vienna . In 1993 he became a professor at the University of Innsbruck . In 1971, he first became a member of parliament . From 1983 to 1987 he was Minister of Science in the coalition government of Fred Zinovac. In 2004, he was nominated by the Social Democratic Party of Austria for the presidency of Austria and won the election . And now [ specify ] , according to polls, he is the most popular politician in Austria. Critics point out that Fisher always avoids conflict. He is married and has two adult children. Career
After his studies, Fisher was the first in parliament since 1962 as the secretary of a socialist parliamentary group operating since 1971, and he was elected to the National Council , which he served until 2004, with the exception of his time as minister for science (1983— 1987).
In 1975, he was chairman of the Social Democratic Party, and since 1977, deputy chairman. In the period from 1983 to 1987, he worked as Minister of Science in the federal government of Zinovac [5] . In 1990, he became president of the Austrian National Council and worked in this capacity until 2002. From 2002 to 2004, he was, during a coalition of ANP-APS parties, deputy speaker of the lower house.
In January 2004, he nominated himself for the post of Austrian Federal President. On March 10, Heinz Fischer resigned from his post as a member of the federal executive branch and deputy chairman of the Social Democratic Party. The elections held on April 25, Fisher won with 52.39% of the vote, with a 4.78% margin over Benita Ferrero-Waldner ( People’s Party , also supported by the Freedom Party ). On July 8, 2004, Fisher was sworn in as the eighth President of the Second Republic . With taking office on July 8, 2004, he suspended membership in the SDPA.
On November 23, 2009, he again ran for the presidency of Austria in the 2010 elections, reiterating this on YouTube , and won by an overwhelming majority. The Austrians showed no interest in the elections and the smallest turnout was recorded [6] On April 25, 2010, Fischer won by gaining 79.3 percent of the vote, with 53.6 percent coming to the polls and he was re-elected for a second six-year term.
