Rudy Gobert ( fr. Rudy Gobert ; born June 26, 1992 in Saint-Quentin , France ) is a French professional basketball player who plays in the center position. In the 2013 NBA draft, he was selected by the Denver Nuggets team under a common 27th number. Currently stands for the NBA Utah Jazz club and the French national team .

Career

Club

He began his professional career in 2009 at the Cholet club, but before the 2011 season he played for the youth team. In the 2010/11 season, he only left the first team once, scored 6 points, made 5 rebounds, 1 interception and 1 block shot. In the 2011/12 season, he averaged 4.2 points and made 3.6 rebounds on average per game. As part of the “Cholet” took part in 29 matches [1] . In the 2012/13 season, an average of 27 matches scored 8.4 points and made 5.4 rebounds.

Gober announced his intention to take part in the 2013 NBA draft and immediately set the draft records for the range of arms and the point to which he can reach while standing [2] . The record for the reach of hands was broken a year later by Walter Tavares .

On June 27, 2013, Gober was selected under the overall 27th number by the Denver Nuggets team. On the day of the draft, he was exchanged to the Utah Jazz team for the 46th number of the draft, Eric Green and the amount of money. July 6, 2013 signed a contract with Jazz and took part in the 2013 NBA Summer League [3] . On December 14, 2013, he was sent on loan to the Bakersfield Jam Development League club [4] . December 21 was returned to the team, where he remained until [5] January 4, 2014, and then again went to the "Jam" [6] . January 13 was again returned [7] .

In July 2014, Gober again played in the NBA Summer League for “Jazz” [8] . According to the results of the 2017/18 season, he was recognized as the best defending player, thus becoming the second Frenchman (after Joaquim Noah ) and the fifth foreigner in this category [9] . In the 2018/19 season, he set an NBA record for the number of dunks per season (statistics on top shots have been kept in the organization since 2000) [10] .

In 2019, according to the results of the 2018/2019 season, the second time was recognized as the best defending player of the NBA [11] .

International

In 2011, Gober won a bronze medal at the European Basketball Championship for boys under 20 years of age, and in 2012 won the “silver” at the European Championship for boys under 20 years of age. At the 2012 tournament, Gober, along with another Frenchman, Leo Westerman, got into the symbolic national team of the championship.

The head coach of the first French national team, Vincent Colle, called the player to prepare for the 2012 Olympic tournament. Gober played in two friendlies, scored 8 points. In the national team of France at the 2014 World Cup he won the “bronze”.
