Creating a shelf
The 131st Fighter Aviation Regiment was formed in the Odessa Military District in Zaporozhye during the 7th Long-Range Bomber Aviation Brigade on the basis of the 1st Squadron of the 48th Fighter Aviation Regiment and the 2nd Squadron of the 18th Fighter Aviation Regiment on I-16 aircraft .
Shelf Transformation
On February 8, 1943, the 131st Fighter Aviation Regiment was renamed the 40th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment on the basis of the Order of the USSR NKO for the exemplary performance of combat missions and the courage and heroism shown at that. [1]
