Recent years and death
During World War II, Ripley focused on charity work, but after the war he re-energized. In 1948, in the year of the 20th anniversary of “Believe it or not!” The animated series “Believe it or not!” Was released, the radio show was nearing completion and it was planned to replace it with a TV show. It was a rather bold move on the part of Ripley, since at that time only a small number of Americans had access to television. Ripley managed to complete only thirteen episodes of the show before he became disabled as a result of serious health problems. He reportedly lost consciousness during the filming of his last show. His health deteriorated, and on May 27, 1949, at the age of 58, he died of a heart attack in New York. He was buried in his hometown of Santa Rosa , California.
