Boris Leven ( eng. Boris Leven , in early films (before 1950) - Boris Levin ; [1] [2] [3] 1908 - 1986 ) - American cinematographer (production designer) of Russian origin; multiple nominee for the Oscar , who received it once in 1962 for the film " West Side Story " [4] .

Biography

He was born on August 13, 1908 in Moscow in the merchant family of Israel Davidovich Levin and Zinaida Narkiryer. [5] [6]

In 1927 he emigrated to the United States of America , where he became a naturalized citizen in 1938. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Southern California , he attended the in New York .

Leven started his film career as an artist at Paramount Pictures in 1933, and after three years he moved to 20th Century Fox . His first film, in which he acted as art director , was the dramatic musical (1938), for which Leven received his first Oscar nomination.

Works Leuven covered a wide range of filmmakers - from Western to fiction and musical . He collaborated regularly with director Martin Scorsese [7] .

Died October 11, 1986 in Los Angeles. The first wife (1938-1945) - Lyuba Solov (born Liuba Solov), then until the end of his days was married to Vera Glushkova ( born Vera Glooshkoff ).
