Biography
The son of a freedman . Since 1799 - a graduate of the Imperial Academy of Arts in the class of historical painting. His teacher was Egorov, Alexei Egorovich . His portrait was preserved in his youth, painted by a teacher (1812, Tretyakov Gallery).
Received medals: in 1811 - a small silver; in 1812 - big silver and big gold for the program βPresent in action the famous Nizhny Novgorod citizen Kozma Minin, moving the hearts of all his fellow citizens to the sacrifice of all his property to save the Fatherlandβ [1] .
In 1812, after graduating from the Academy, he received a certificate for the title of class artist of the 1st degree with a sword. [2] .
The Russian Biographical Dictionary indicates that he was a drawing teacher at St. Petersburg University (1830).
Kondakov also indicates that there was another artist Vasily Sukhanov (without a middle name), who was a free-coming student of the Academy of Arts and in 1867 received the title of teacher of drawing in high schools [3] .
