Afonin, Serafim Zakharovich

Serafim Zakharovich Afonin ( June 30, 1935 , p. Pavlovka , Dobrinsky district , Lipetsk region - October 28, 2014 , Moscow ) - Russian statesman, chairman of the Russian Committee for Metallurgy (1993-1996), honored metallurgist of the RSFSR and the Russian Federation, three times laureate of the Government Prize USSR and Government of the Russian Federation.

Biography

In 1954-1958 served in the Pacific Fleet . In absentia he graduated from the Lipetsk Mining and Metallurgical College and (in 1965) the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (Lipetsk Branch).

  • 1958-1978 - Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant : steel caster, senior foreman, assistant shop manager, deputy. chief engineer, ch. steelmaker;
  • 1978-1984 - Chief steelmaker of the Ministry of ferrous metallurgy of the USSR;
  • 1984-1989 - chief engineer of Metallurgprom;
  • 1989-1992 - Chairman of the Board of Metallurgprom, member of the Board of the Ministry of Metallurgy of the USSR;
  • 1992-1996 - Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Russian Committee for Metallurgy;
  • 1996-1997 - Deputy Minister of Industry of the Russian Federation;

Since 1997 - President of the Union of Metal Exporters of Russia.

He had more than 150 copyright certificates for inventions, more than ten patents of foreign countries. He proposed ideas and introduced new steel flow control technologies into production during its continuous casting. The author of the book “My Half Century in Metallurgy” (2005).

Awards and titles

He was awarded two orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree.

Honored Metallurgist of the RSFSR and the Russian Federation. Twice winner of the prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. Laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation (2001).
