Career

Alan Molder was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. From an early age, he showed an interest in music, noting among his favorite groups, creativity - Cream and The Beatles . The first album he acquired was T. Rex's Electric Warrior , a young Molder who was impressed by the quality of the album. He started playing in his first group as a teenager - they recorded some demos in a local studio; it was there that he realized that he was more attracted to producing - what he so enjoyed in T. Rex's recording: he was more interested in the technical side than the performance of the material itself.

Molder's musical career began in the early 80s, at the London studio Trident Studios . He worked as an assistant engineer, gaining experience with many influential producers, such as Jean-Michel Jarre , relying on their professionalism in electronic music. One of his colleagues was a sound engineer - Mark “Flood” Ellis , with whom Mulder will often collaborate in the future. So, Mulder helped Flood in one of the record sessions of The Jesus and Mary Chain , then he noted that the choosy group liked working with him. The Jesus and Mary Chain musicians invited Mulder to become the sound engineer of their concert recordings, and in the end, they entrusted him to produce their album Automatic (1989). Musical critics noted Mulder's work - praising a combination of tight, noisy guitars with polished, listener-friendly tones. After that, the former label of this group - Creation Records , invited Mulder to produce recordings for bands: Ride , My Bloody Valentine and Swervedriver .

After working on the mini-albums of Glider and Tremolo by My Bloody Valentine, Moulder made friends with two teams who were big fans of this band. In 1992, he mixed Siamese Dream The Smashing Pumpkins and Going Blank Again Ride . In 1994, he collaborated on the Nine Inch Nails album The Downward Spiral .

Mulder’s work with Nine Inch Nails turned into a long-term collaboration - Trent Reznor invited him to work on several of his albums, as well as on the same-name album by Prick and the debut album of his then protégé Marilyn Manson Portrait of an American Family .
