Biography
Abu Dulaf came from the Ijl clan of the Adnanite tribe of Bakr ibn Wail. He was appointed governor of Jibal Harun ar-Rashid. In the conflict between al-Amin and al-Mamun, he joined al-Amin, after the defeat of which he was pardoned and retained his position. He had good relations with al-Mutasim and commanded his troops on a campaign against the Hurramites . Al-Mutasim's successor, al-Wasik , was also supportive of Abu Dulaf. Under the leadership of al-Afshin Haidar, he participated in the suppression of the Babek rebellion in Azerbaijan.
Abu Dulaf died in Baghdad in 839 or 840. His sons and descendants ruled in Hamadan as virtually independent emirs until 798, when they were replaced by the “strong” caliph al-Mutadid .
