SugarCRM is a commercial open source CRM system developed and distributed by the company of the same name. The system is installed on the server . Access to the system is via a web browser or any mobile device that supports web browsing. The commercial version of the system is sold by the company as a web service .

In Sugar Professional, Sugar Corporate, Sugar Enterprise, Sugar Ultimate versions there are additional modules that significantly expand the capabilities of the system. The functions of the base modules in these versions are also expanded. The key differences between commercial versions and Community versions are:

- the ability to share user rights at the field level (Community version allows you to have demarcation only at the module level)

Base language of the product: English. Due to the ability to load localizations into the system, Sugar supports all other main languages: Russian, German, French, Italian, Chinese and others. Features
SugarCRM is an open source CRM (in PHP ) that can be tailored to the needs of a particular organization. Both paid and free versions of the system are available (free-trial mode for 7 days, then you need to buy a paid version). Sugar CRM can be deployed on most * nix systems ( Linux , FreeBSD , Solaris and others), as well as Microsoft Windows . A typical configuration of SugarCRM implies using MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition as a DBMS, however, commercial versions may already use Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Oracle . Apache or MS IIS can be used as the http server for the case of placing the system on a Windows platform.
Through the use of web technologies, system users can use most common operating systems at workplaces. SugarCRM - supports working with Internet Explorer , Google Chrome , Firefox , Opera , Safari .
Due to the possibility of developing code directly in PHP, it is possible to fine-tune the system to the needs of the organization. The system delivery kit includes a module for visual development (Studio). With it, an untrained user can create new ones and make changes to old modules.

SugarCRM runs on many cloud computing platforms, including Amazon EC2 , Microsoft Azure , Sugar On-Demand, and more.
Integration
An important quality of any accounting system is the ability to implement its integration with software working with related tasks. For SugarCRM, through direct access to the database or developing custom PHP code, an integration scheme of almost any complexity can be created. SugarCRM offers its users turnkey solutions for integration with Microsoft Word , Microsoft Outlook , Microsoft Excel and Lotus Notes .
Another basic feature of the product is the function of creating special web forms. The web forms embedded on the pages of the sites allow solving the problem of registering contacts, any applications and appeals.
Another important feature of the CRM system is the availability of modules for integration with office PBXs, including for computer telephony based on Asterisk
Company
In April 2004, three employees - John Roberts, Clint Oram and Jacob Taylor - quit to start their own business, and already on August 2 the first public release was released - version 1.1.
Currently, the company is working steadily, earning income through a subscription to services. This is the case with Compiere , a competitor who also relies on additional services as a source of funds to develop its ERP and CRM systems, but not through the sale of rights to use the product.
According to the company itself, SugarCRM is the world's leading provider of open source customer relationship management (CRM) systems. In 2011, there were more than 7,000 companies worldwide using SugarCRM in their work. In turn, more than 500 thousand users use the system in these companies.
Since November 7, 2006 SugarCRM is available in Russian.
In 2008, an Indian company branched off VTiger CRM .
Since version 6.6, developers have virtually stopped developing the free version of the system (in SugarCRM Community Edition 6.5.x versions, the bugs are mostly fixed), after July 15, 2017, support for the free version was completely discontinued [1] . Starting with version 7, developers have declared support for only commercial versions of the system. [2] To further develop the functionality of the free version in August 2013, SalesAgility announced the creation of the next project branch, based on the source code of SugarCRM CE 6.5.x [3] .
Licensing
Due to the availability of commercial and free versions, as well as the distribution of open source SugarCRM, approaches to licensing SugarCRM have repeatedly changed. Starting April 11, 2010, SugarCRM announced that starting with version 6.0.0, SugarCRM will be distributed under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3. [4] Charts module, diagrams, client portal, support for mobile devices, some functions and SOAP Most theme templates have been removed from Sugar Community Edition 6.
