Joseph Karlovich Voitkovsky (born June 20, 1920 ) is a Soviet tankman , a participant in the Great Patriotic War , a full gentleman of the Order of Glory .

During World War II, he fought as a gunner-radio operator of the crew of the T-26 tank, the 42nd Panzer Division, 21 mechanized corps, then the T-34 of the 203rd tank battalion of the 89th tank brigade , 1st tank corps. Biography
Born on June 20, 1920 in the village of Zelenitsa, now in the Emilchinsky district of the Zhytomyr region (now Ukraine ), in a peasant family. Ukrainian. In 1939 he graduated from the 8th grade of the school and then worked as a secretary of the Zelenitsky village council [1] .
In the Red Army since October 1940. At the front in World War II from June 26, 1941, the radio operator machine gunner of the T-26 tank, 42 tank division, 21st mechanized corps. He received baptism of fire on June 27, 1941, in battles near the city of Daugavpils, where the T-26 tank was shot down on the first day of hostilities. After the loss of the combat vehicle, the fighting continued with a rifle as an infantryman until August 1941. After the disbandment of the 21st mechanized corps, a cadet of the 9th reserve tank regiment [1] . At that time, in the area of Yasnaya Polyana ( Tula Region ), the 89th Panzer Brigade of the 1st Tank Corps was stationed in the reserve of the Supreme Command of the High Command , where it was withdrawn after battles on the Bryansk Front [2] . Senior sergeant I.K. Voitkovsky was appointed head of the radio station of the 203rd tank battalion of this brigade [3] . At the end of the formation, on October 7, 1942, a brigade in the 1st tank corps fought on the Southwestern Front . From January 9 to March 15, 1943, the brigade was again withdrawn for replenishment in the reserve of the Supreme High Command Headquarters in the Tambov Tank Military Camp. After the March and April battles on the Western Front, on May 22, 1943, the brigade became subordinate to the Bryansk Front [2] .
On July 18, 1943, the head of the radio station of the 203rd tank battalion of the 89th tank brigade, senior sergeant I.K. Voitkovsky, saved a headquarters car with a radio station from fire, which caught fire from heavy mortar fire. He was awarded the medal "For Military Merit" (August 10, 1943 [3] ).
On September 28, 1943, during the Bryansk operation, tank crews took part in the liberation of the city of Vetka ( Gomel region of Belarus ) [4] . During the battles of November 16-19, 1943, the radio operator-gunner T-34 of the 203rd tank battalion, senior sergeant I.K. Voitkovsky distinguished himself in maintaining radio communications between the tank commander and the command. At the same time, the crew of his tank destroyed two anti-aircraft installations, two guns, 4 anti-tank rifles, one mortar and up to 25 enemy soldiers and officers. For this episode he was awarded the first Order of the Red Star (December 3, 1943) [5] . Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since November 1943 [1] [6] .
Since December 28, 1943, the 89th Panzer Brigade was placed at the disposal of the 1st Baltic Front [2] . In February 1944, in the battles near the village of Shatrovo ( Vitebsk region , Belarus ), the radio operator-gunner of the T-34 crew of the 89th tank brigade of the 1st tank corps of the 11th Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front, Sergeant I.K. Voitkovsky ensured uninterrupted radio communication between the battalion commander and the brigade headquarters, and also destroyed about 10 enemy soldiers with machine gun fire. March 13, 1944 was awarded the Order of Glory III degree [1] .
In the summer of 1944, front troops participated in a large-scale Belarusian offensive operation (Operation Bagration). On June 29, 1944, brigade tankers went on the offensive with the goal of defeating the German forces and liberating the city of Polotsk ( Polotsk offensive operation ) [4] . On this day, in the battle for the village of Nalitsa and the Vetrino station ( Vitebsk region , Belarus) of the guard, senior sergeant I.K. Voitkovsky showed exceptional energy to fulfill the task assigned to the battalion. During the attack, he was in the crew of the commander of the 203rd tank battalion, Captain Povarov, whose tank was in the battle formations of the battalion [7] . And less than a week later, on July 3, brigade tankers, along with other units and formations of the 1st Baltic Front, took part in the liberation of the city of Glubokoe [4] . For ensuring uninterrupted communications on September 22, 1944, the senior sergeant I.K. Voitkovsky was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree [7] .
During the Memel operation near the city of Kelme ( Lithuania ) and further during the advance of the Guard on Tilsit (now Sovetsk, Kaliningrad Region ), Senior Sergeant I.K. same brigades, 2nd Guards Army ). Throughout the assault on the city of Kelme and during the subsequent offensive from October 6 to 13, 1944, he provided continuous communication with the brigade commander, company commanders, and headquarters. In addition, with his marksmanship from a machine gun, he disabled two cars and more than 10 enemy soldiers [1] . And on October 10, tank crews liberated the city of Šilutė (now Lithuania) [4] . For the difference in these battles on November 19, 1944, of the Guard, Senior Sergeant I.K. Voitkovsky was awarded the Order of Glory, II degree [1] .
On October 19, 1944, the brigade became subordinate to the 3rd Belorussian Front [2] . On January 17-22, 1945, during the Insterburg-Königsberg operation during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense in the vicinity of the city of Grudziadz ( Poland ), the guard, Sergeant I.K. , and also destroyed 5 vehicles, two carts, and before the enemy infantry platoon from a tank machine gun [1] [8] . On January 20, brigade tankers liberated the cities of Tilsit (now Sovetsk ) and Gross-Skaysgirren (now Bolshakovo, Slavsky District, Kaliningrad Region ) [4] . On March 7, 1945, the foreman I.K. Voytkovsky was re-awarded the Order of Glory of the II degree (August 19, 1955 re- awarded the Order of Glory of the I degree ) [1] [8] , and the 89th Tank Brigade was given the honorary name "Tilzitskaya" [ 4] .
The rifleman of the 3rd tank battalion of the elder guard I.K. Voitkovsky ended the war on April 30, 1945, when the 89th tank brigade was withdrawn to the reserve of the 3rd Belorussian Front [2] . For skillful firing from a frontal tank machine gun he was also presented to the second order of the Red Star (awarded June 2, 1945) [9] .

In June 1946, demobilized. He lived in the village of Barashi, Emilchinsky district, Zhytomyr region . He restored the destroyed economy, worked in procurement organizations [11] . After retiring, he became chairman of the Council of Veterans of War and Labor. He led an active political life, a member of the Communist Party of Ukraine , a member of the bureau of the district committee. He was one of the activists who revived the party cell of the Communist Party in the village of Barashi after the ban of the Communist Party of Ukraine [11] . Honorary Veteran of Ukraine. Honorary resident of the Emilchinsky district. Died on January 22, 2015. He was buried in a cemetery in the village. The rams.
