Great Gerrozavr [1] ( lat. Gerrhosaurus major ) is a species of lizards of the family Gerrhosauridae .

The total length reaches 55 cm. The head is short, rounded in front. The body is massive, flattened, the limbs are short, strong. The tail is thick, approximately 2/3 of the body length. The eyes are large, dark. The scales are large, on the dorsal side of a rectangular shape, keeled, located in regular transverse rows. On belly belly scales. On the sides stretch deep longitudinal folds of the skin. The color is yellow or light brown with black specks formed by black spots on each scale. The amount of black increases from head to tail. On the sides of the neck and throat ocher or red color.
He likes coastal forests, thickets of bushes, savannas, stony foothills with rich vegetation. Hiding among the stones, fallen trunks and at the roots of trees. It feeds on insects.
Oviparous lizard. The female lays 2-3 eggs.
Endemic of Africa. It lives south of the Sahara.
