The Maritime Security of the State Border Service of Ukraine ( Ukrainian Morska Okhorona of the State Service of Ukraine ) is a structural subdivision of the State Border Service of Ukraine that protects the sea areas of the state border of Ukraine , territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone of Ukraine.

History
The creation of a marine guard began after the declaration of independence of Ukraine, simultaneously with the creation of the border guard service of Ukraine.
In the 1990s, a division of 8 armored boats of Project 1204 “Bumblebee” with a deployment in the Izmail region was transferred to the border guard service of Ukraine, which was transferred to Ukraine after the collapse of the USSR [1] .
In 1995, the small anti-submarine ship of the project 1124P Dnepr was removed from the border guard ships and incorporated into the Ukrainian Navy under the name Vinnitsa .
Since 1999, ships and boats of the marine guard received numbering with the prefixBg .
In 2001, the reform of the Ukrainian Border Guard Service began, as a result of which on July 31, 2003, the border troops of Ukraine were transformed into the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
In July 2005, the head of the press service of the Azov-Black Sea Regional Department of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Sergey Poddubny, said that the tender for the supply of boats for the maritime security of the Border Service was won by the UMS company in Kiev, which collects vessels under an American license do American boats "Galion 280" and "Gala 640" [2] .
During 2005–2006, 52 boats were bought to protect the river sections of the border (of the type “Galeon-280”, “UMS-600”, “Galia-640” and “Heavy Duty 460”).
In December 2008, 3 ships, 9 boats and two sections of the maritime pontoon of the marine guard station were decommissioned and put up for sale [3]

In 2009, in the Izmail detachment of the marine guard there were 4 armored boats of the project 1204 “Bumblebee”: BG-81 “Lubny”, BG-82 “Kaniv”, BG-83 “Nizhin” and BG-84 “Izmail” [4] .
In 2010, 4 UMS-type boats, 4 Eagle-type small speed inflatable boats and 2 hovercraft were handed over to the sea guard, another 52 ships and marine-guard boats were repaired with a life extension (the most important was the repair of the Nikolayev ship costing 4 , 5 million hryvnia), and the ships "Donbass" and "Bukovina" were upgraded (they installed new radar stations, GPS devices and echo sounders). As a result, by the beginning of 2011, the number of sea guards of the GPSU increased to 12 ships and 64 boats [5] .
In April 2010, the Kerch detachment of the marine guard of the SPSU detained the Turkish fishing schooner Baba Hassan, which was engaged in illegal fishing. The schooner was confiscated [6] , re-equipped and repaired, after which it was included in the marine security of the SPSU under the name "Onyx" [7] .
On March 11, 2011, three UMS-600 boats were handed over to the border guard service, which were procured under the international technical assistance program “Countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction through the Ukrainian-Belarusian (Chernobyl exclusion zone) and the Ukrainian-Russian border” and entered into service with the Mariupol Marine Unit protection [8] .
In August 2011, in Izmail, the first 17 fighters of the special service of the marine guard of the SPSU completed a two-month course of study [9] .
In September 2012, 2 ships and 10 boats of the marine border guard service were decommissioned and put up for sale [10]

In 2012, one large patrol boat of the Orlan project and four small patrol boats of the UMS-1000 type came into service with the marine guard [13]
- On October 10, 2012, two boats of the type UMS-1000 ( BG-16 and BG-17 ) were received [14]
- On December 11, 2012 a large patrol boat BG-200 “Balaclava” of the project “Orlan” was received.
In January 2013, a division of river ships was formed at the Western naval base [15] .
As of the beginning of 2013, the marine security forces consisted of 16 ships and 52 boats [16] .
At the end of 2013 were part of the marine guard.

- five ships of the sea guard of the project 205P ("Podolie", "Pavel Derzhavin", "Mikolaiv", "Bukovina", "Donbas")

- 1 boat of the Orlan project sea guard;
- 17 small boats of the sea guard of the Kalkan project;
- 6 small patrol boats of the UMS-1000 type;
- 62 different small boats
On March 2, 2014, 12 units of ship-cutters of the Sevastopol and Yalta detachments of the marine guard were transferred from the Crimea to Odessa and included in the Odessa detachment of the marine guard of the GPSU [17] .
After the referendum on the status of Crimea on March 16, 2014, the Supreme Commander of Crimea S.V. Aksenov ordered the servicemen of military units of the Ukrainian armed forces on the territory of the peninsula who did not want to serve in the Crimea army to submit a termination report. The rest were asked to enter the service of the armed forces of the self-proclaimed Republic of Crimea . Following this, on March 18, 2014, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine began the withdrawal of maritime security from the Crimea [18]
- 11 ships of the Kerch detachment of the marine guard relocated to Mariupol in addition to the seven ships already located there [19] .
- Part of the personnel of the Ukrainian Border Service, who served in the Crimea, decided to continue service in the border guard of the Russian Federation [20]
- October 21, 2014 [21] The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea handed over to the regional authorities several ships and boats that, until March 2014, were part of the Ukrainian marine security service and nationalized on April 30, 2014 (including the border guard vessel BG31 “Bucovina” of project 205P, and also boats BG 09, BG 11, BG 504 and BG 820) [22] [23]
On August 31, 2014, a tactical group of two patrol boats of the maritime guard of the State Border Service of Ukraine (boat BG 119 of the project 1400M “Grif” and a small boat of the type “Kalkan”) on the Sea of Azov was shot from the shore by unknown people in the area of the village Bezymennoe , as a result the boat BG 119 was damaged and sank [24] , 2 of 9 crew members were missing and 7 were injured [25] .
On October 6, 2014, another UMS-1000 boat was handed over to the Odessa Marine Guard detachment [26] .
On July 7, 2015, when leaving the ship-boating station in the bay of Mariupol, a mine was blown up and a small boat of a UMS-1000 type marine guard sank. Of the seven people on board, 2 people were killed (the captain and resident of Mariupol on board) [27] , 5 border guards were injured [28] . Later, the damaged boat was raised, repaired and returned to service on May 26, 2017 (repair costs amounted to 2.5 million hryvnia) [29] .
On October 9, 2015, the State Azov Sea Ecological Inspectorate handed over the boat "Kalkan" to the marine guard unit of the SPSU, which is based in Mariupol. He became the sixth boat of this type, entered service with the SPSU [30] .
On December 23, 2015, the Kiliya shipbuilding and ship repair plant completed repairs for the marine guard of the ship’s Amethyst ship [31] (a former poaching fishing schooner, which was confiscated by border guards in 2001) [32] .
