Biography

Pavel Sklifosovsky was born on November 14 (26), 1854 in the city of Izmail in the Bessarabian region in the family of the head of the Central Quarantine Administration Timofei Vasilyevich Sklifosovsky (older brother Nikolai Sklifosovsky ). In 1872 he graduated from the Chisinau Regional Gymnasium with a gold medal. In 1872 he entered the Medical and Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg .

In 1877, as a student, he was with the Red Cross detachment in Bulgaria . In 1878, Pavel Sklifosovsky graduated from the Academy with honors (doctor’s rank), and on April 24, 1882 he was awarded the title of Doctor of Medicine (the dissertation “On Changing Adipose Tissue with Phlegmonous and Some Other Inflammations” under the supervision of Professor Nikolai Petrovich Ivanovsky ).

Since 1882, Pavel Sklifosovsky served in the Moscow Clinical Military Hospital [1] as a junior resident , then (since 1891) as a senior resident.

From 1887, he was a teacher of special subjects at the Moscow Military Paramedic School, and from 1882, he was a consultant physician for external and surgical diseases of the Military Physician's Hospital in Moscow.

Pavel Sklifosovsky was a full member of the Moscow Surgical Society (was elected in 1882), the Russian Surgical Society of Pirogov (elected at the first meeting of the society on April 25, 1882), and the Society of Military Doctors in Moscow (founded in April 1885). In 1885-1886 - Secretary of the Society of Military Doctors in Moscow. He took part in the congresses of Russian surgeons and the Society of Russian doctors in memory of N. I. Pirogov . In 1892, he was elected secretary of the Moscow meeting of doctors.

His works were published in the journals Chronicle of the Surgical Society in Moscow (since October 1887 - editor of this journal), Medical Review , Surgery, Military Medical Journal , and Chronicle of Russian Surgery . He was a member of the editorial board of the journal " Surgical Annals ".

From 1899 to 1908 (with a break), Pavel Sklifosovsky served in the Nikolaev military hospital (St. Petersburg) as a consultant to the chief physician for the surgical part and led patients at the Clinic for patients at the Medical Philanthropic Committee of the Imperial Humanitarian Society . Since November 1899 - a full member of the St. Petersburg Medical and Surgical Society (founded in 1894 by N. A. Velyaminov ). Since October 1904 - at the front of the Russo-Japanese War as the chief surgeon of the 2nd Manchu Army. Got a concussion .

From 1908 to 1912 - corps doctor of the 5th Army Corps ( Warsaw , from 1910 - Voronezh ). Full member of the Warsaw Military Sanitary Society (in 1910 it was transformed into the Society of Adherents of Military Sanitary Knowledge in Warsaw). In 1910 he organized in Voronezh the Department of the Society of Adherents of Military Sanitary Knowledge.

In December 1911, he was appointed to St. Petersburg to the Military Sanitary Scientific Committee (the highest deliberative institution in the Military Sanitary Directorate of the Russian Imperial Army ), where he worked as a permanent member. During the First World War - head of the Petrograd Infirmary named after His Imperial Highness Prince A. Oldenburg (organized by P. Soikin in September 1914) and senior doctor of the City Infirmary No. 5 named after Generalissimo Joffre (since June 1915).

He died in Petrograd on May 11 (24), 1918, was buried on May 14 (27) at the Nikolsky cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra (the grave was not preserved).
