Freezer

. Allegory depicting month of freemer

Freemer ( fr. Frimaire , from frimas - hoarfrost, frost) - the 3rd month (November 21/23 - December 20/22) of the French Republican calendar , valid from October 1793 to January 1, 1806 . The freemer is the last, third month of the autumn quarter ( Fr. mois d'automne ) . It is followed by the first winter month - nivoz [1] [2] [3] .

Like all the months of the French revolutionary calendar, the freemer contains thirty days and is divided into three decades. Instead of traditional saints in Catholicism, the name of an agricultural plant is attributed to each day. The exception is the fifth ( Quintidi ) and tenth ( Decadi ) days of each decade. The first of them is assigned the name of the animal, and the last is the name of the agricultural tool [3] . Contrary to the original proposal of Fabre d'Eglantina , the Convention called the 8th day of the freamer Miel ( honey ), and the 11th day - Cire ( wax ). In the project d'Eglantina these names were intended for nivose . Thus, the principle was violated to attribute the names of plants to the non-repeated five numbers of all months, except for a nivose.
