History
The county was first formed during the Qin Empire. During the time of Wang Man’s dictatorship , it was renamed Gunchong (功 崇 县), but under the Eastern Han Empire, the county was returned to its former name. Under the Northern Qi Empire, Chiping County was annexed to Liaocheng County.
At the beginning of the Sui empire, Chiping County was re-created, but at the end of the existence of this empire, it was again annexed to Liaocheng County.
Under the Tang Empire, in 621, Chiping County was again isolated from Liaocheng County, but in 627 it was rejoined.
When in 1130, as a result of the Jurchen invasion, they formed the vassal state of Great Qi , its ruler Liu Yu again isolated Chiping County from Liaocheng County.
In 1949, the county became part of the Liaocheng Special Area (聊城 专区) of the newly formed Pingyuan Province . In 1952, Pingyuan Province was disbanded, and the Liaocheng Special Region was transferred to Shandong. In 1967, the Liaocheng Special District was renamed the Liaocheng County (聊城 地区).
By a resolution of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China dated August 29, 1997, Liaocheng County and Liaocheng County were disbanded, and instead, Liaocheng City District was formed.
