Biography
Siyum Ilyazetdinovna Yagudina was born on May 25, 1916 in Astrakhan in the family of a Tatar merchant Yagudin I. N. After graduating from the seven-year school, she moved to her older sister in Turkmenistan, in the city of Chardzhui (Chardzhou). In 1930 she entered the agro-cotton technical school, at the same time got a job as an agricultural technician at the MTS. In 1935 he entered the Tashkent Agricultural Institute, which successfully graduated in 1940. After graduation, she was assigned to work in the subtropics department of the Experimental Station (now the Institute) named after R. R. Schroeder. In the same year she was sent to the graduate school of the Agricultural Academy. KA Timiryazeva, however, was expelled for bourgeois origin by a denunciation of a distant relative. Upon returning to work, despite failing, she continued research on the study of berry crops and only in 1957, collecting a lot of factual material on strawberry selection, defended her thesis. At the same time, she studied other types of berries - black and golden currants, raspberries, gooseberries - with the aim of the possibility of their cultivation in the arid Central Asian region. In 1968, the berry crop sector was organized at the R.R. Schroeder Institute, which she headed until 1976. Siyum Ilyazetdinovna died from severe long-term illness in Tashkent on October 24, 1991.
Scientific Activities
The scientific work of S. I. Yagudin began from a student's bench under the supervision of Academician R. R. Schroeder , who at that time headed the fruit and berry experimental station (later the R. R. Schroeder Research Institute of Horticulture and Viticulture) and at the same time was dean of the faculty of the Tashkent Agricultural Institute . Scientific and practical activity was the cultivation of varieties of berries for cultivation in the regions of Central Asian climatic conditions. Author of the progressive method of growing berries. Her varieties of garden strawberries “Memory of Schroeder”, “Late Sweet”, “Uzbekistan”, as well as varieties of golden (golden) currant “Dense”, “Sweet”, “Uzbekistan large-fruited” were zoned in Uzbekistan and beyond.
In 1957 she defended her thesis at the Moscow Agricultural Academy. KA Timiryazev on the topic: "Some features of growth and fruiting of large-fruited strawberries in the Tashkent oasis." The result of scientific activity was the publication of the monograph "Currant" [1] , which summarizes the results of many years of work on breeding, sorting, biology and agricultural technology of golden currants.
S. I. Yagudina did a great job of preparing berry growers of mass qualification and popularizing knowledge among amateur gardeners. He is the author of popular science books [2] [3] and brochures [4] , published in Russian and Uzbek languages.
The varieties of strawberry and golden currant bred by S. I. Yagudina were repeatedly presented at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition and the Exhibition of Economic Achievements. For a great contribution to the development of agriculture in the country, she was awarded the silver medal of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (1958), the bronze medal of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements (1960), the silver medal of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements (1962, 1963). Twice awarded the Diploma of the Supreme Council of the USSR. In 1973, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Uz of the SSR, she was awarded the title of Honored Agronomist of the Uzbek SSR. Author of more than 70 scientific papers, 20 varieties of strawberries and currants. Due to high yields (up to 10 kg from a bush), the varieties of the golden currant Plotnoyasaya, the Uzbekistan large-fruited, etc. are included in the State Register in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, recommended for cultivation in the southern regions of Russia - the Krasnodar Territory, in the Crimea. Currently, the Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture and Winemaking named after Academician M. Mirzaev (formerly NIISViV named after R. R. Schroeder) is successfully continuing to develop new varieties of berries by one of her students, now deputy. Director, R. M. Abdullaev. Paying tribute to the memory of his supervisor, he named the variety of golden currant - Siyuma [5] .
