Biography

Huatu was the son of the governor of Connaught, Aed Mack Ehaha , who died in 575 [3] . According to medieval genealogies , it belonged to Wye Brijun Ai, one of the branches of the Wu Brijun clan [2] [4] . However, modern historians (for example, F. D. Byrne ) note the possible dubiousness of the data of medieval historical sources about the early history of Wui Brijun, considering this information to be “signs of falsification” by the authors of the VIII century [1] .

According to the medieval list of Connaught kings preserved in the Leinster Book , Huatu poppy Aedo inherited the throne after his father, Aeda poppy Ehaha [2] . This source erroneously endows Huat with twenty-eight years of reign [5] . The absence in the Irish annals of information about Huat as a king allowed F. D. Byrne to make the assumption that in the VI century the representatives of Wu Brijun did not yet possess power over the whole Connaught. According to this historian, the first historically reliable king of Connaught from this genus was the son of Huatu Rogallah [1] .

The Annals of Tigernach date the death of Huatu mak Aedo to 600, the Annals of Ulster to 602 [6] . Probably, this event occurred in 601 or 602 [1] [2] . According to the list of Connaught monarchs from the Leinster Book, after the death of Uatu, the throne passed to Colman poppy Kobaigu from the genus Wie Fiahrah rivaling Wu Brijun [5] . However, perhaps the direct successor to Huatu was Mael Cotide Mak Mael Umai from the clan Fir Hera, mentioned in the annals in 603 [2] [4] [7] .
