History
In 1999, Lama Danzan-Khaibzun Samaev , who was the rector of the St. Petersburg datsan "Gunzechoynei" in the 1990s, began "a riot of three datsans against the" Ayusheev’s dictatorship ", officially re-registering them as a new independent organization and removing them from the Buddhist traditional sangha of Russia (BTSR). The reason for this, according to Samaev, was that in this way the Pandito-Khambo Lama D. Ayusheev now could not independently appoint the rectors of these datsans, the largest of which was the Atsagat datsan , as well as disagreement with the general course of the Khambo Lama [1] . After the death of Samaev in 2005, the post of spiritual mentor of the organization was taken by his student Danzan-Dasha Shaglahaev.
The organization was named in honor of the upcoming Maitreya Buddha . Its core is the datsans Tunki and Oka. "Maidar" focuses primarily on meeting the spiritual needs of the residents of this region, while encountering competition from the oppositional BTSR, which is also present on the East Sayan . Other distinctive features of Maidar are its propaganda of environmental views in conjunction with Buddhism, which was inherited directly from Samaev, as well as special respect and attention to the figure of the hambo-lama Aghvan Dorzhiev , who is called the last reincarnation of Samaev.
