Biography
Seka spent his childhood in need and hardship. He learned to read and write at the age of 18. In 1872 he began to serve as a psalmist in the Good Church. However, a small salary could not ensure the existence of a family of 8 people, and in the same year Seka moved to North Ossetia in search of a better life. Here he also continued to serve as a psalmist in Ossetian villages. However, the material condition of the family did not noticeably improve. His children, like himself, often had to be hired.
In 1912, Seka settled in Vladikavkaz .
Gadiev began writing in the late seventies of the XIX century. However, the self-taught man who mastered the letter, the mountaineer-peasant had to work long and hard to expand his literary knowledge and literacy.
The most vivid and comprehensive talent of the writer manifested itself at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. From the very beginning of his creative activity, Seca was strongly influenced by the poetry of Kosta Khetagurov . The first collection of Gadiev’s poems “Ossetian Shepherd” was published in 1905. It consisted of 25 poems and 22 fables. From the very beginning of his writing, Gadiev stood on the positions of realism. He spent his whole life in the midst of the working people, among the poor. Directly communicating with the masses, he knew perfectly well the thoughts and aspirations of ordinary people. The oppressed position of the people, the cherished dream and the desire of the working masses for a brighter future were clearly reflected in the poems of Gadiev.
Many Seca's poems are devoted to morality. He opposed magnificent memorials, drunkenness, theft, laziness.
Gadiev’s excellent talent was revealed mainly in prose. He is considered one of the founders of fiction in the Ossetian language. The main place in Seca Gadiev’s prose is occupied by stories that have won public recognition for the writer.
After the tragic death of July 21 ( August 3 ), 1915, he was buried in the Meshchansky cemetery of Vladikavkaz, near the Ilyinsky Chapel, which was later transformed into a church. In Soviet times, the writer's grave was lost.
His son, Tsomak Secaevich , was also a famous writer.
