Kyrgyz national team

The Football Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic tried to attract Ilzat Akhmetov to play for the national team of Kyrgyzstan starting in September 2016, when the 18-year-old football player was still playing for Rubin Kazan . It was stated that "" Ilzat was born in Bishkek, and has every right to play for the national team of Kyrgyzstan. " Then the head coach of the Kyrgyz national team, Alexander Krestinin, said that “we are interested in Akhmetov. But at the moment he stands for the youth team of Russia. However, we understand that he has the right to play for the national team of Kyrgyzstan. So the choice will be only for Ilzat himself ” [11] .

In October 2018, head coach Alexander Krestinin said that he had once again tried to contact and invite Ilzat Akhmetov to play for the national team of his homeland. He said that “during my stay in Moscow I wanted to fly to Ilzat in Kazan, but neither he nor his father picked up the phone. They voiced their position. I have no complaints against them and no offense. Everyone chooses his own path. If he plays for us, he will already be a legionnaire there. He is building a career through Russia. This is his right, and we must respect him. This is normal ” [12] [13] .

In his interviews, Ilzat Akhmetov said that he received messages with reproaches and insults because he received Russian citizenship. According to him, Kyrgyz fans accuse him of betrayal. Akhmetov himself said that "he never betrayed his native country." He also stated that “it’s a shame when they insult me, but I try not to take it to heart. Who knows my situation, he is right. I did not betray Kyrgyzstan, on the contrary, I want to glorify the country where I was born. ” Ilzat’s father, Toglok Akhmetov, also said that the decision to accept Russian citizenship arose after his son began playing in Russia. Toglok Akhmetov also said that “they consciously went for it, otherwise he would not have been accepted to study at the Russian football academy” [14] .
