Biography

Born in 1934 in Baku in the family of an oilman. In 1953, after graduating from Baku secondary school No. 164, he entered the Geological Research Department of the Azerbaijan Industrial Institute named after M.Azizbekova (now Azerbaijan Oil Academy). In 1958 he graduated from the institute with a degree in mining engineer-geophysicist.

1958-1965 - Technician, geophysicist, senior engineer and senior researcher at the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute for Oil Production.

1963 - defended his thesis on the topic: "The study of lithological and reservoir properties and prospects of oil and gas content of the Cretaceous deposits of the Caspian-Cuban region of Azerbaijan according to field geophysics."

1965-1967 - head of the laboratory for the interpretation of field geophysics materials of the Azerbaijan branch of VNIIGeofiziki.

1967-1969 - India, Assam. Head of the interpretation service for geophysical materials of the “Commission on Oil and Natural Gas”.

1969-1982 - Head of the sector of the Azerbaijan branch of VNIIGeofiziki.

1982-1985 - People's Republic of Mozambique. Chief engineer-manager of work on the prognostic assessment of hydrocarbon reserves.

1985-1992 - Head of the laboratory for the joint interpretation of borehole and field geophysical research AzVNIIGeofiziki.

1988 - at a meeting of the specialized Council at the Institute of Geology of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Patterns of formation and distribution of oil and gas production areas and oil and gas accumulation zones in the Mesozoic sediments of the South Caspian oil and gas basin”.

1992 - First Deputy Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Geophysics for scientific and industrial work.

1992-2003 - Director of AzNIIGeofiziki (SOCAR).

1993 - professor of the Azerbaijan National Creative Academy.

2003-2012 - Senior Researcher, Head of the Laboratory of the Research Institute of Geophysics of the Department of Geophysics and Geology, SOCAR.

Since 2012 - Leading Researcher at the Laboratory of Geological and Geochemical Assessment of the Forecasted Hydrocarbon Resources of NIPI Neftegaz SOCAR.

Scientific and social activities

The scope of scientific activity is the problem of establishing patterns in the formation and distribution of oil and gas deposits in the Meso-Cenozoic sediments of the South Caspian oil and gas basin. The choice of places for deep wells in the structures depending on the lithological and facies composition of sedimentary rocks of the Lower Pliocene. Together with co-authors, he recommended a number of promising structures in Yevlakh-Agdzhabedinsky for prospecting and exploration.

The recommendations were confirmed on pl. Zardob and Jafarly, where the oil and gas content of the Eocene deposits was established. Conducted a comprehensive analysis of geophysical and geological research materials in the Srednekurinsky and Nizhnekurinsky depressions in order to identify possible oil and gas objects in the effusive and sedimentary formations of the Upper Cretaceous and granular reservoirs of the Lower Pliocene.

He developed methods for assessing the saturation nature of complex Mesozoic reservoirs based on complex data from geophysical well surveys that have found practical application in production and research organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Together with BP-Statoil alliance, as well as with the Petro-Fina oil and gas joint-stock company, studies were conducted on migration and accumulated hydrocarbons in the South Caspian basin, the dependence of hydrocarbon migration and accumulation on temperature and reservoir pressure was clarified, and seismic and field-geophysical materials were interpreted in order to predict the presence of reservoirs and the nature of their saturation in the deposits of the Lower Pliocene Fragment of some areas of the Baku archipelago.

While working in the Assamese project of India, he dealt with the issues of separating oil-saturated reservoirs and evaluating the estimated parameters for the Lakva, Rudrosagar, and Geleki deposits. He summarized and analyzed seismic, geological and field-geophysical materials on the land and shelf of the Mozambique basin. As a result of these works, the land and shelf of Mozambique was divided into promising blocks, which were subsequently submitted for tender.

He made speeches at the All-Union meeting-seminar "Oil and gas potential of great depths and mud volcanism" (Baku, 1989), at the XII Turkish Geophysical Congress (Ankara, 1991), I-IV and VII Geophysical Conference of Azerbaijan (Baku, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2010), the 1st International Conference “The Hydrocarbon Potential of Great Depths: Future Energy Resources — Reality and Forecast” (Baku, 2012), the International Conference “An Integrated Approach to the Detection of Hydrocarbon Resources” (Baku, 1912).

He visited scientific missions in Turkey, the USA, Great Britain, Iran.

Member of the New Azerbaijan Party since 2002.

Deputy Chairman of the Specialized Academic Council for conferring academic degrees and titles at the Azerbaijan Oil Academy (1995-1999).

Chairman of the Scientific Council of AzNIIGeofiziki (1992-2003).

Member of the Bureau of the National Geophysical and Geological Committees of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1992-2003).

President of the Society of Petroleum Geologists of the Azerbaijan Branch of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (2002-2003).

Member of the editorial boards of the journals "Geologist of Azerbaijan" (2001-2014) and "News of Geophysics in Azerbaijan" (1997-2003).

Teaching activities

1978-1982 - lectured in field geophysics at the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry.

In India, personnel have been trained for independent work in the field of interpretation of field-geophysical materials.

Rewards

Certificate of Honor of the Embassy of the USSR in India (1969). Certificate of Honor from the Ministry of Geology of the USSR and the Embassy of the USSR in the People's Republic of Mozambique (1985).
