Biography and Creativity
Born in the family of a railway worker in the city of Yelets, Orel Province (now Lipetsk Region ).
He studied at the school in Yelets, which in the XIX century graduated from the Russian writer and poet Ivan Bunin . He graduated from the Oryol Industrial College.
Before becoming a writer, G. N. Fedotov worked in production: in large new buildings, as a construction technician at the plant. Work among people of the most diverse disposition of character, age, and various professions gave him as a writer rich material in life.
Since 1939 he lived in Penza.
Since 1947, G. N. Fedotov has completely devoted himself to writing. His works were published in literary and artistic almanacs, in magazines, in the newspapers Literature and Life , Literary Russia , and were included in collective collections.
In 1950, in Moscow at the All-Union competition for a short story, held by the magazine " Peasant ", for the story "Happiness of the mother" G. N. Fedotov was awarded the prize.
In 1950, the first book of the writer was published - a collection of short stories “Mother’s Happiness” (named after the story of the same name). In 1952, a collection of short stories, "Signs of the Times." In 1953, Fedotov was admitted to the USSR Writers Union .
In subsequent years, his books were published at various publishing houses of the country: “Open Doors”, “Friends” (1956), “Eleven”, “Girlfriends”, “New Man” (1960), “Bedova”, “Last Love ...” (1973), Close to the Heart (1966), The Milky Way (1983) and others.
A number of Fedotov’s books were published in large numbers in the largest publishing houses in Moscow: “New Man” - in the publishing house “ Young Guard ”, a collection of novels “Last Love ...” - in the publishing house “ Sovremennik ”, the novel and short stories “The Milky Way” (1983) - in the publishing house " Soviet Russia ". And in the publishing house " Soviet Writer " three times came the one-volume novels of short stories and stories "Close to the Heart" (1966, 1969, 1978).
Wrote over 20 books.
He died on November 6, 1989 in Penza, at the 82nd year of his life.
He was buried in one of the central alleys of the Newwestern cemetery of Penza.
Rewards
G. N. Fedotov was awarded the following state awards for his services in the field of Soviet literature:
- Order of the Badge of Honor .
- Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR .
Perpetuation of memory
In Penza, on a residential building on 63 Volodarsky Street , in which Gavriil Nikolayevich Fedotov lived from 1960 to 1989 , a memorial plaque dedicated to him was erected.
