Biography

Before being tonsured a monk, he was a novice with his uncle, Archbishop Herman of Rachinsky.

He was tonsured a monk and ordained an hierodeacon in 1778, and a hieromonk in 1783.

Since 1785 he was bishop of Rachinsky and before the consecration he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.

On June 6, 1821 he was awarded the Order of St. Anne of the 1st degree. [one]

November 19, 1821 was appointed Archbishop of Imereti and Guria.

Since 1834 he began to ask for rest; in his place, he wished for the appointment of a Russian hierarch, and in his charge requested the Rachinsky volost in Georgia. Compatriots - princes, nobles and clergy - asked him to stay with them.

Diseases, blindness, and finally, a rebellion erupted in Guria, the indiscretion of the elder bishop to reassure the people through the parish clergy, all these were reasons for dismissing him from managing the diocese, which happened on November 8, 1841.

He died on January 1, 1842 in Kutaisi.
