History
It is known that in the 60s of the XIX century the territory, which later became the Zaaminsky Reserve, was studied by the Russian naturalist A. P. Fedchenko . The first scientific description of the flora of this region was given by Olga Knorring , an employee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Empire, in 1916. In the years 1925-26, detailed forest management of the territories was carried out, which served as the basis for the creation of the Guralash reserve (an area of about 8,500 hectares), which existed from 1926 to 1929 and from 1934 to 1951.
Intensive cattle grazing, unregulated deforestation (primarily juniper) and poaching were a serious threat to the preservation of subalpine landscapes, as a result of which in 1959 it was decided to establish Zaamin Nature Reserve. In 1978, the People’s Park of Uzbekistan (31,500 hectares) was organized, which formed a single array with the reserve.
Before the collapse of the USSR, the reserve was under the authority of the Main Directorate of Hunting and Nature Reserves of the Ministry of Forestry of the Uzbek SSR .
