Amos Ruth ( born Amos Ives Root ) ( 1839 - 1923 ) is an American entrepreneur who has made a great contribution to the technology and development of beekeeping. Ruth became a pioneer in the industrial production of hives, the implementation of bee packages and queen bees in the United States.

In 1879 he published the well-known book, The Encyclopedia of Beekeeping, which is reprinted so far in many languages of the world, including Russian.
In 1890, he simplified the model of the hive proposed by Langstroth , extending this hive 40 years after its invention. The hive was named “Simplicity”, it remained the same frame size, the bottom became detachable and the roof was flat.
He founded one of the largest companies in his time suppliers of beekeeping equipment. Root Candles manufactures products and belongs to its descendants to this day.
In the Russian-language literature is known by the name of the hive Langstroth-Ruta.
