Career

He started his career in the Nigerian club of the second division “Dynamik”, then he played in Azerbaijan for two seasons (according to the player himself, he played for Baku “ Neftchi ”, according to statistics, he didn’t play in official matches for this club).

In mid-2007, he moved to Uzbekistan and signed a contract with Dynamo Samarkand . Over 4 seasons he played for Dynamo more than 100 matches and later became the team captain. In the winter of 2011/12 he moved to the Tashkent Bunyodkor , but before the start of the season the contract was terminated, as he did not agree with head coach Mirjalol Kasymov [2] . The next half-season he played for the Jizzakh “ Sogdiana ” in the first league . Then he spent a year and a half at the Bukhara club.

At the beginning of 2014, he signed a contract with Ferghana Neftchi , but did not pass a physical examination and PFL of Uzbekistan was not allowed to participate in matches of the national championship of the country. In the summer, he did not undergo a physical examination again and the contract was terminated with him. In the autumn of the same year, Oniya signed a contract with the Malaysian club T-Tim. On June 13, 2015, the football player lost consciousness during a friendly match. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died without regaining consciousness [3] .

David Oniya was married to a Russian girl from Samarkand [4] , they have a daughter named Angel. David's parents live in their homeland in Nigeria [4] .
