History

History of the village of Semenovskoye

According to legend, the village of Semenovskoye appeared around 1427-1430, when the troops of the Tatar khan Genghis Khan passed to the West through the territory of our village. And there are historical places associated with the battle near the village. The sand quarry behind the village, opened in 1960, indicates that after the battle the Tatars were buried in a sand mountain. After the development of the quarry, the earth began to crumble and the graves of the Tatars who were buried in a sitting position with their heads facing west appeared. Russian soldiers were buried in the territory where the church is now located. They were healthy strong people - the bones of the hands and skulls of the heads are very large, arrows were found in some skulls. The church, built in the 17th century, was wooden, burned out after a fire. The whole street where the church was burned down, and people decided to build a street farther from the ravine, which is why it was called "Big Street". In the place where the church now stands there was a swamp called the “Goat Swamp” - goats grazed there. The stone temple was built in 1813 by Count Ivan Petrovich Saltykov, great-grandfather of the writer Saltykov-Shchedrin and landowner Talyzin. In 1810-1812, Count Saltykov I.P. borrowed 60,000 rubles from the Alatyr merchant of the 1st guild of M. S. Kosolapov, a rather high sum for the construction of the church at that time. Thrones in it 2 - the main (cold) in honor of the Ascension of the Lord and in the aisle (warm) in honor of the icon of the Sign of the Mother of God. Church land 3 tithes of 400 square manor houses, and 33 arable lands. A parable consists of a priest, deacon, and psalm-reader. Their houses are on church ground. The capital is almost 500 rubles. Parishioners in the village of Semenovskoye have a Russian population, volost rule in 229 versts, 917 men and 964 women. In the village of Milyutino, at the Mene River, one verst from the church, the Russian population is 73 yards, 291 men and 392 women, in total 302 yards, 1,205 men and 1,356 women. At a distance of about 150 meters south in 1861, in honor of the liberation from serfdom, a chapel was built with a height of about 25 meters of red brick. They say that this chapel was built in honor of the Tsar-Liberator. The chapel was very beautiful, inside it had many icons, as well as the icon of the Mother of God “Recovery of the Dead”. Icons were also painted on the walls of the chapel. Prayers to the departing army and the fallen soldiers of the village of Semenovsky served in it. Now only one icon has been preserved, which means that it served as an oath of allegiance to the Fatherland. Around 1939–40, the chapel was destroyed and the brick was pulled apart by the citizens of the village, and part of the white stone slabs was laid under the monument. The village’s chronicle was also kept in the Semenov church according to the words of B. Semenov, teacher of the Semenov school. In the 30s, the chronicle and valuable ancient books were selected and taken to Poretsky. They were stored in the Rayono building, there were many books, but in 1942, during the fire, the building burned, and books and rich church utensils burned down. The material was taken from the books of Valery Kochetkov “Alatyr” by the Chuvash Book Publishing House 1978, Archpriest Zakharov D. M. “Churches and Monasteries of the Simbirsk Province” in 1825, according to the words of the old-timer of the village of Spirin, Ivan Gavrilovich. The material was collected by V. Ryazanov. In September 1773, Pugachev, under the name of Tsar Peter 111, called on the peasants to fight the landowners. He set foot on Chuvash land on July 17, 1774. Having crossed the Volga, from Kurmysh to Alatyr, his path ran through landlord, economic and domestic villages. By that time, most of the villages of Alatyr district revolted. In Anastasov, Korovin, Vypolzov, Polybin, Skukikh and other villages, the rebellious peasants dealt with the landlords and defeated their villages. In the village of Semenovsky, where the Votchinsky stud farm was located, the rebels executed the clerks, took the 230 best horses, and later the Russian and Mordovian peasants shared the remaining 200 horses. Pugachev entered Kurmysh on July 20 and, having been here for 5 hours, moved towards Alatyr. His path ran through Poretskoye, Anastasovo, Lomakino, Semenovskoye, Polybino, Bored. Before the Great October Revolution, the village of Semenovskoye was part of the Alatyr district of the former Simbirsk province. For two kilometers it stretched along the river Me. There were about 700 yards in the village. Agriculture, which the peasants were engaged in, could not feed large families, allotments were small - one and a half tithes per capita, and the yield was very low - 30-40 pounds per tithe. In many families, bread was only enough until the new year, so the peasants were forced to engage in auxiliary craft (crafts, trade, and resale of livestock). Of the crafts were especially common - the production of wheels, sleds, carts, manually made a brick. We were also engaged in pottery production (making lofts, pipes), and there were coopers who made tubs and barrels. There were lapotniki who weaved bast shoes, baskets, feet, and purses from willow branches. The Semenov peasants traded in cattle, handicrafts, and mallets made from malt, of which the Semenov women were great craftsmen. Their goods could be seen at the bazaars of Poretsky, Talyzin, Alatyr. The Big Bazaar was going on Thursdays and in Semenovsky itself. Even in those days, Semenovtsi were famous for their tobacco grown in their gardens. The village had its own mills - steam and windmills, shingles, churns. A beautiful church towered in the center of the village, it stands now. The church was built in 1813. Landowner Myatleva Praskovya Ivanovna, driving in a carriage from Poretsky through Semenovskoye, got so stuck that if it weren’t for the Semenovites, they would not have gotten out of the quagmire. In gratitude for the salvation, a church was built in Semenovsky through her efforts. In 1925, a large partnership was created in the village, Andrei Ivanovich Nedvigin was elected chairman. In 1929, an attempt was made to unite a more conscious part of the population into agricultural cooperation - the collective farm, called the “October Flame”. Mikhail Dergunov was elected Chairman. In the fall of 1929, the Bolshevik industrial artel was created to produce bricks, pottery, wheels and other artisanal products. In 1933, the artel was transformed into the Bolshevik collective farm, in which there were 32 households. Vasily Peleshin from Poretsky is elected Chairman. The peasants of Vakurnaya Street and the lines adjacent to it separated and formed their collective farm, “The Struggle for Socialism”. As in Semenovsky, in Voznesensky the first collective farmers were the poor. Soon a seven-year school opens in Semenovsky, which in 1939 was transformed into a secondary school. In 1937, a club was built in the center of the village. There was a radio. People stopped thinking about a piece of bread. The collective farm has harvested a rich harvest. Many households received 300 or more pounds of bread. There is a growing demand for beautiful clothes, shoes, furniture and other household utensils.
