Leslie “The Forest” Espin Jr. ( Leslie “Les” Aspin, Jr .; July 21, 1938 , Milwaukee , Wisconsin - May 21, 1995 , Washington ) is an American Democratic politician.

In 1960, he graduated with honors from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in history. In 1962, he received a master's degree in economics from Oxford University . Doctor of Economics ( Massachusetts Institute of Technology , 1966).
In 1966-1968 he served as an officer in the US Department of Defense , was engaged in analytical work. Then, before being elected to the US Congress, he taught economics at Marquette University.
In 1970, he was elected to the US House of Representatives as an adversary of the Vietnam War . From 1971 to 1993, Member of the House of Representatives from Wisconsin. In 1985-1993 - Chairman of the Armed Forces Committee of the House of Representatives.
From January 21, 1993 to February 3, 1994 he served as US Secretary of Defense in the Bill Clinton administration . He resigned due to criticism of him. Died of a stroke.
