Biography
Katal was one of the sons of the ruler of Lagor Niall Mack Kerning Sotala . It belonged to Ui Hernayg , one of the two main branches of the genus Sil Aedo Slana [1] .
Katal's father poppy Neill was killed in 701 by the king of Nauta (North Bregi) Irgalakh poppy Konayng Kuyrre from the clan Ui Honayng [2] . After the death of Niall, Lagor was ruled one by one by the kings Mane Mack Neill , Conall Grant and Vogartach Mack Neill . Mane and Vogartach were brothers of Catal, Conall Grant - his uncle. In addition to power over Lagor, Vogartach poppy Neill also owned the title of supreme king of Ireland . After his death in 724, Katal inherited only the throne of South Brega, and Kinaed Mack Irgalayg of the Ui Honaying clan became the supreme king [1] .

In the Annals of the Tigernach , Katal is called the “king of the part of Bregui” ( dr. Ríg Desceirt Breagh ) - this is the first time mention of this title in medieval historical sources . However, in the earlier “ Annals of Ulster ” there is no information about his title [3] .
After the death of Catalan poppy Neill, the throne of Lagor was inherited by his nephew Katal poppy Aeda .
