Title
Etymology is not clear. The name ( Kalm. Arm ) can be translated as 1) a throwing spear; dart; 2) young; not strong [2] .
History
Date of founding the village is not installed. On the map of the Red Army of southern Russia in 1936, a field station is marked on the site of the modern village [3] . This territory belonged to the Sarpinsky district of the Kalmyk ASSR. After the deportation of the Kalmyk population, the Sarpinsky district on the basis of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR of December 27, 1943 "On the liquidation of the Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the formation of the Astrakhan region within the RSFSR" was included in the Stalingrad region. However, in the reference book on the history of the administrative-territorial division of the Volgograd (Stalingrad) region for the years 1936-2007, there is information about the settlement are missing [4] .
On the 1985 map, on the site of the village, the ITF collective farm "Giant" is marked [5] .
Physical-geographical characteristic
The settlement is located within the Yergenin Upland, belonging to the East European Plain . The height of the center of the settlement is 96 meters above sea level [6] . The terrain within the boundaries of the village has a common slope from south to north, to the valley of the Zelmen River [7] . In the environs of the settlement, light chestnut solonate and solonchak soils are common, as well as solonets (automorphic) soils (in the Zelmen valley) [8] .
The climate is temperate continental , according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification - humid continental with hot summer (Dfa index). The perennial rate of precipitation is 349 mm, the average annual temperature is + 8.7 C. The average temperature of the coldest month of February is -6.8 C, the hottest month of July is +24.3 C [6] .
By road, the distance to the capital of Kalmykia, Elista, is 180 km, to the district center of the village of Sadovoe - 8 km, to the nearest city of Volgograd, Volgograd Region - 130 km [9] .
Arym, like the whole Republic of Kalmykia , is located in the MSC time zone ( Moscow time ). The offset of the applied time relative to UTC is +3: 00 [10] . |
