Geography
The village is located in the southern part of the North Siberian Lowland , 410 km northeast of Dudinka on the left bank of the Kheta River.
History
It is believed that the lacustrine winterhouse Volochany was founded in 1643 by a squad of archers under the leadership of Vasily Sychev. Zimovye was located at the dragging that connected the basins of the Kheta and Pyasina rivers. From here, probably, the name of the village comes. In a number of documents Volochanka was called Volosyanka. Over time, the winter hut grew into a village.
In March 1931, during the organization of the Taimyr National District , the Avamsky district was formed, the center of which was Volochanka. At the same time, a medical center, a trade cooperative, a house of natives, a school and other facilities were opened in Volochanka. A deer collective farm was organized.
In 1932, the first plane landed in Volochanka. In 1937, a library and a boarding school were opened for children of the northern nomadic peoples. In Volochanka, a collective farm named after Stalin worked, engaged in horse breeding and truck farming. In 1955, the first tractors arrived in Volochanka.
In 1964, the Avamsky district was abolished and Volochanka lost the status of a district center, remaining only the center of the village council. In the same period, three small collective farm "im.
