Biography

Born March 15, 1934 in the city of Balakhna ( Gorky region ). The son of Igor Mikhailovich and Veronika Aleksandrovna Yakovlev. Grandson of the landscape painter Mikhail Yakovlev (1880-1941), one of the founders of Russian impressionism . Sister - Yakovleva Olga Igorevna. Niece - Poluboyarinova (Abrosimova) Ekaterina Stanislavovna. After the family moved to Moscow in 1944, worked as a courier in the publishing house "Art" , visited the workshop of Vasily Sitnikov . In the 1950s, he worked as a retoucher at the publishing house "Art" and studied in the studio of the artist Vasily Sitnikov. Since 1945, he was observed and periodically underwent treatment in psychiatric hospitals. For the last thirty years of his life he was almost blind.

In Moscow, he met with artists Mikhail Grobman (who wrote about him in his diaries), Anatoly Zverev , poet Gennady Aigi (Yakovlev makes drawings for his poems, creates a portrait of the poet in 1966), composer and harpsichord player Andrei Volkonsky (in his apartment 1959, an exhibition of works by Yakovlev), met with the Czech avant-garde theorist Indřich Halupetský .

Creativity

In 1963, the first official exposition of Yakovlev in the USSR was organized - a one-day exhibition together with Eduard Steinberg in the Museum of F. M. Dostoevsky . Abroad, the artist's works were presented at the exhibition "Russian Avant-Garde in Today's Moscow" in the Gmurzhinsk Gallery ( Cologne , 1970) and others

Yakovlev wrote mostly in gouache on paper or hardboard, preferring restrained, cool tones. He went through a period of pointless painting (lyrical abstractionism in the style of J. Pollock ), survived the influence of Picasso . The artist’s mature things were created in line with the “new figuration” - the avant-garde movement, which returned from abstraction to an object perceived with new drama. His portraits, still lifes, as well as the famous "flowers" impress with the depth of a lonely existence in a picturesque space, hidden by the energy of resistance.

Recognition

The works of Vladimir Yakovlev are stored in many Russian and foreign museums, in private collections in Russia and abroad. In 1990-1991, the artist's works were shown at the exhibition “Other Art. Moscow 1956-1976 ”, organized by the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum .

In 1995, his personal exhibition was held at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
