Biography

Alicia Debnem-Carey was born July 20, 1993 in Sydney in the family of television screenwriter Leona Carey [7] .

In 2011, she graduated from Newtown Performing Arts High School , where she studied classical percussion for ten years [8] .

While still studying, in November 2010, Alicia as a percussionist, along with forty other students of musical institutions in Australia, took part in concerts conducted by musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic on the stage of the Sydney Opera House [9] .

After leaving school she moved to Los Angeles, USA.

Career

She made her film debut at the age of 8, starring in the short film by Australian actress Rachel Ward "Martha's New Coat" [10] (the picture was released in June 2003).

Then there were small roles in the series “Macleod’s Daughters” and “ Dance Academy ”, as well as several works in independent short films.

In 2012, she entered the final cast for acting scholarships by Heath Ledger [11] and took part in the reality show “Next Stop - Hollywood” , which tells about six Australian actors trying to break through in Hollywood.

In the same year she got the main role in her first American film “The Occult” [12] , which was released in 2014 under the title “ The Devil's Hand ” [13] .

In 2014, the release of the catastrophe film “ Towards the Storm ” [4] [14] [15] [16] , which brought the actress the first fame, took place. Alicia's colleagues on the set were Richard Armitage and Sarah Wayne Callis .

In the fall of 2014, the actress joined the cast of the second season of the series " 100 ", broadcast by The CW , where she played Lex , the leader of the union of terrestrial clans. Alicia herself noted that the image of the commander of earthlings is one of the most interesting and complex of all that she had ever played before [17] . The character was so liked by the audience that the developer of the series, Jason Rotenberg, announced his desire to use it in the future. In an interview before the ending of the second season, Rotenberg said that he was negotiating with the AMC on combining the filming of the actress in the spin-off of The Walking Dead and 100 [18] . July 10, 2015 on the panel of the series at the Comic-Con festival in San Diego, it was officially confirmed that Debnem-Carey will return to the image of Lexa in the third season of the show [19] .

In December 2014, it became known that Alicia received one of the leading roles in the spin-off of the series “The Walking Dead ” of the AMC channel [3] . In March 2015, after the filming of the pilot, the channel ordered the production of two seasons [20] . The first season of six episodes started in the summer of 2015. The pilot episode, shown on August 23, was the highest-rated premiere in cable TV history. The series was watched by 10.1 million viewers, including 6.3 million viewers aged 18-49 years [21] . The second season was released on television on April 10, 2016 and consists of 15 episodes [22] .
